"Now" is always the best time. But when is your summer pto? If you start your search now your probably 2 months away from a change, at the earliest. You could also think about taking a break between jobs and take your pto as a payout. I just took 6 weeks off between jobs and it was amazing.

Do you think interviewing/recruiting dies down in the summer or could I still apply in say July because I ultimately could see starting in September/October? Where did you leave and go to?

I’m leaving since last summers time off was practically none existent. I don’t need time off more than I need a work life balance. What I’m trying to say it, only you know what the best answer is for this question.

It usually slows down in the summer as a result of vacations. Last year I brought someone into EY, we started the process in may and he got an offer in July. This year I left ey for a local firm. In regards to your timing, are you tax, audit, or other?

Oh that’s interesting. I’m in industry now but looking to go to a mid-tier firm to do audit. I was at a big four before my industry gig

I think your timeline sounds pretty reasonable. That would get you on the radar as folks start to staff up the spring jobs, and you would come in with enough time for training and some hard-close work before it gets crazy.

I guess my thing is I don’t want to start in the summer and miss out on the change to take time off because you have to accrue it first so if I start looking in July or August might be my best bet

If you want to be out by summer time I would suggest interviewing and searching now. In the fall it might not pick up until September. At least that’s what I’ve observed. I’m in tax and have found right around 4/15 and 10/15 is when people are ready to start the interviews. I started looking in January and things did not start to pick up until ending March. Also, last year during my 10/15 there were tons of Recruiters on Linked in starting in August/September

I’d like to start in September so would that mean starting to interview in June?

If I interviewed now could I defer until the Fall or is that something that they wouldn’t be interested in?
