What's the best way to find out my ideal body weight? BMI says I need to lose 8 lbs but I think that will make me very skinny. I am a 5’7” and 162 lbs, M.

BMI is full of shit, I’m 6’4 210 pounds and it says I’m overweight but I’m less than 10% body fat.

Ideal what is how you feel healthy

I threw away my scale over two years ago, I only know my weight from going to the doctor

like

I believe you need to be comfortable where you are, BMI does not take into account body build, bone structure etc. I’m 6ft 4in, run 40 miles a week, eat healthy etc etc but BMI tells me I’m overweight!
If you think dropping will make you uncomfortable with your weight don’t do it, just always look to be healthy!

like

BMI is just outdated, muscle weights more than fat so a super lean and muscular person could be “overweight” per BMI, but be perfectly healthy.

Focus on your overall health more than BMI and even weight to some extent especially if you’re in a muscle building phase.

like

Technically muscle doesn’t weigh more, it’s just more dense. Compare a golf ball to basketball.

like

The BEST way would be to get a DXA scan or similar body scan that will tell you exactly what percentage of your body is fat VS muscle (%Body Fat, or BF). Don't believe BMI; it doesn't take into account fat VS muscle. Aim to be at 15%-25% bodyfat.

But also, there's no such thing as an ideal weight or %BF, I've just provided a range. Whereever you feel your best (energy is high and you feel good) is where you should be

like

Get some estimate of your % body fat then compare it to your goals/ what’s typical for your size and gender

like

My body fat is about 15% based on the measurements

I would’ve go buy how you feel. It’s a “guide”. It’s a European model.

I agree with the other comments. BMI is a very tough tool because we all have different muscle mass etc. Many countries now say anything less than 30 is healthy, rather than 25, as long as you have a healthy body fat percentage (aka you do moderate exercise). Body fat percentage is the important thing for the most part.

My recommendation is to focus on getting a little more exercise in every week, and making small improvements on food choices when you can. If you're always focussed on improving, you'll be unlikely to maintain/lapse into an unhealthy lifestyle! It's probably not worth putting much focus on weight.

Ideal according to what? Love the life you want in the body you want.

like

That’s right! Love yourself first!

How did you “measure” 15% body fat? Dexa is really the only reliable measure. Otherwise, look online at visual representations of the body fat percentages and be real with yourself. None of the other scans/scales are worth a lick.

At 15% body fat, 5’7” and 160ish lbs… you would be clearly well built. Someone who obviously lifts weights and looks very fit without a shirt on. No love handles at all, some ab definition. Is that you? If so, just ignore BMi… congrats, you are above average for muscle and it doesn’t apply well to you!

15% is a great place to hang out. For a lot of people, staying below that is pretty tough. Then decide if you like your build or if you want to put on more muscle. Build a plan from there.

There so many Dexa scan deal on Groupon and on Black Friday specials. Check local websites of places nearby you that offer it.

Tbh sounds accurate!

As long as you are fit, toned I think that weight is great. If you are happy that’s all that matters.

Hoping some 🐠 know health insurance. Working two jobs. Enrolled in a traditional HMO plan with health FSA with Job #1 and enrollment is closed. No changes can be made until next year. Job #2 opened it's annual enrollment and is offering a high deductible health insurance plan with HSA option. Can I enroll in Job #2's plan simultaneously and contribute to the HSA or is Job #1's plan considered "disqualifying health coverage" that prevents me from contributing to the HSA? What is the penalty?

Mental health is busy, looking for tips to help manage tasks, currently I supervise 12 therapists in 3 different departments that are all different with unique dynamics in each dept. I still carry a small caseload on top of this. I'm struggling with my patients and worry I am not giving them my best, I wax and wane between focusing on patients and therapists. Looking for advice navigating this type od conversation with my leadership, we have all been asked to work on increase billable time...

Question if anyone has advice/experience, starting a new role and will be 11w pregnant. I knew going in I probably wouldn’t qualify for family leave and that’s been confirmed (must work for company for 12 months). They do have “medical leave” I would qualify for (unpaid, 4w max) but job is not guaranteed. I also am not sure I’ll qualify for FMLA since that says you have to work a consecutive 26w (this will take me to 37w pregnant, it’s twins so most likely will give birth between 34-36w)..

👋🏻 New mom here. I’m seeing a lot of comments about parents opting for “no sleepover” rules. Is this because of Covid, or is this a new thing? I went to sleepovers all the time as a kid and just wondering what reasons beyond a case-by-case basis would be to have this rule? Not judging, just genuinely curious.

Hey ladies, so I moved to the US a few years ago and am still figuring out the healthcare system. I have heard that hospital bills related to giving birth can get up to $10,000 with insurance. Does this apply to everyone or do people below a certain income threshold get some assistance since in some cases low income families have many children?
