What’s the best way to have a lack of compensation and incentive conversation in your department? I went above and beyond for years doing extra work, organizations etc and nothing has been reflected in pay. I thought my 5 year was going to finally show something but it did not. I’ve inquired about pay but it’s gotten nowhere.

The absolute best way is to start applying at other companies.

I agree with VP1 unfortunately, the only way you get leverage is by showing up with another offer. Otherwise they have no reason to change anything

Unless you absolutely love your job or there are extenuating circumstances you should leave, do you really want to have a tough conversation every time it comes to raises?

Honestly, get another offer. That's the quickest and most effective way to bring your salary up to or at least close to where it should be. That said, it sounds like your current employer is blatantly and purposely undervaluing you. I'd probably do more than just shop for other offers. I'd take one and get the heck out of their. But that's just me.

How about getting a promotion? This would be faster than asking for a raise. If you can compile all your performance reviews and achievements, that would be great. Or start applying somewhere else if promotion is not an option.

How can I set the stage this year to negotiate a lower billable hours expectation instead of a raise? As a woman I'm hesitant to be open about my reason: I want more time at home with my kids. I lateraled to this firm a year ago for WLB and they are indeed flexible on WFH which helps. Salary is a bit below average for mid-size firms like mine in my area, and I didn't get a raise or bonus this year because I didn't hit the billable target (1900). Ideally I'd keep my salary but go to 1600 hours.

Happy Halloween 🎃 I hope everyone is having a fun and lighthearted Monday. Currently an M interviewing for an SM industry role. Pay would be roughly the same as my current salary. Recruiter was vague on total comp but briefly touched benefits including 10k-25k for degree programs per year, roughly 18% annual bonus, & an unknown amount of RSUs.

What left a sour impression was that the recruiter couldn’t respond to a “TC” number, scheduled a connect in <24 hours, called me 5 minutes late for a 30 minute call & put me on hold for a personal call 🙄. 🚩🚩or HR being HR?
