What’s the best way to impress a resourcing manager? I’m trying to get on this cool project and I’m looking to understand how staffing decisions are made. Thanks for your help!

Literally just be nice and chatty with them. You’ll be surprised how many people look down on resourcers when actually I’m so grateful they exist. Make them aware of where your skills are.

Use them for identifying point of contacts, then use the energy to impress the hiring manager. Create the best elevator pitch you can. You need to make them feel like their clients would love you and make a big difference in the engagement by adding some skills they don’t have.

BAH1 - is right. RM can help, but at the end of the day the engagement manager/partner make the decision.

Not sure how it works at other firms, but staffing has 95% of the say for us

like

Staffing has like 0 say. All about talking to the team. Reach out to the leaders, why you’re interested, what relevant skills you have etc

I’m also hoping that it’s not all based on preexisting relationships, as I’m new in the team and haven’t had the chance to align myself with any directors..

Will it be a positive or negative for when I’m up for promotion to manager next year? Thanks for your advice!

I was rejected at Netflix right after passing the recruiter screening. The reason given is that they're looking for someone who has worked on longer-term projects. I worked on my last project for 2 years and have a 6 year project on my resume as well. I guess they don't like that I've been an independent consultant for the last four years and was on 4 projects during that time. Has anyone else encountered this kind of bias against independents working on shorter-term projects?

For people who are familiar with work culture in Tokyo, how much embezzlement takes place? I see a good number of Japanese people on Instagram buying Bentleys and such. I'm confused how they can do so while living in a high COL with, on average, lower salaries than in the US. With the scandal at Nissan and how many executives were found to be stealing money from the company, I wonder if this is some unspoken secret about doing business in Tokyo? Unless their comp curve is extremely steep.
