I am a Principal Solutions Architect with 13 YOE of which 5 years exp is with Biotech focusing on Public Cloud (AWS) & overall AWS exp. 9 years. I need suggestions /opinions if applying for a Senior Solutions Architect (Level6) at AWS makes sense or if I should aim for a Principal SA (level 7) role at AWS with Healthcare & Lifesciences industry experience. If it makes any difference, I worked for AWS ProServe as an external SA in the past. Any insights / feedback appreciated.

What's your background? I've seen CS graduates be data engineers to business analysts who call themselves data engineers with the minimal knowledge of Python / R or just a tool. Your transition to swe will depend on which category you belong to.
Agree with them all. SWE is such a broad field that you almost have to end up picking a specialization, which might as well be data engineering. Do you already know Spark and Scala? There are definitely ways you can leverage your existing data/analytics background to transition into a more technical data engineering role, if that's what you're interested in.
What's wrong with data engineering? I know lots of people trying to transition the opposite direction
At higher bands there's more overlap. You're career will become more focused on writing packages and frameworks for your team on a Data Engineering path
