What’s the best way to tell your supervising partner that you need a sick day? Having shortness of breath and thinking about going to the hospital to make sure it’s not CoVid...

The fact that you are scared to take care of yourself shows you how gross this profession is. I have been right where you are. Too afraid to ask for a sick day.

You owe them no explanation for the first doctor's appt. Send a quick email saying you're feeling unwell and are going to the doctor and you'll check in as soon as you are able. That's it. You got this. Be well. If it is COVID ( and you likely wont know for a few days, prioritize your health and resting).

Firm’s very touchy about CoVid and I don’t want people to overreact before I’ve had a chance to confirm

Go first thing in the morning. Get confirmation either way and then let them know you're off line for the rest of the day because x or y.

Depends on where you are, but if you think it’s covid call an urgent care or hospital first; they may be segregating potential covid cases from the normal ED.

I would think that your supervisor would prefer you play it safe and work from home for a few days until you can get confirmation - what’s worse, one attorney out for a few days or couple weeks, or having half the office out over the next month or more because the guy who was sick had to come in and contaminate everyone because of an arbitrary culture of being at your desk every waking moment? But seriously, contact your supervisor directly for guidance. If he/she is telling you to come in in spite of the symptoms, perhaps escalate to HR (if you have one) or take it above the supervisor’s head if you feel there might be a sympathetic ear higher up the food chain.

If you have to ask and worry about the optics, you need to switch firms.

There are days I can’t wrap my head around things in our schools system. Our county will more than likely be shut down this week due to drastic increase in covid cases. We will know today. Yesterday, teachers got a harsh lecture that we were the cause that Covid was spreading in the schools (it wasn’t nice), but now sports can play when our county is shut down. I can’t make this stuff up. Our society would never survive a true plague.

I 693 medical form: the surgeon agrees to sign the form again as the RFE came after 60 days of the initial signature, but my concern is, the lab is done 2 months back, and even the signature is provided again, USCIS will question why there’s a 2 months gap between labs & signature right?

I’m sure this has been asked before—but how do you get through work when going through a breakup with a long term SO? I have a new male boss & cant really tell him what’s going on. I’ve been taking PTO scattered. I live alone and NYC Covid winter alone is already feeling so overwhelmingly sad and lonely on top of everything else.

Looking for advice on this: I bought a house (in the five boroughs) in 2017 and turns out my neighbor (let’s call him the Antagonist) two doors down has some serious beef with the neighbor between us. It got to the point where the Antagonist started to imagine that I (and the previous owner of my house) am somehow colluding to steal his driveway (nobody is). Now, I could just dismiss him as a mentally ill person, but he’s sane enough to keep making spurious complaints to the DOB and DEP (contd)

Recommendations for getting back into exercising and working out? I get puffed out walking up the stairs these days. Haven’t worked out in over a year and put on some covid pounds. Food is back under control but I want to feel healthy again and less like I’m going to die walking to the corner store. I’m also so wobbly right now with no muscle definition at all. If anyone follows any programs or you tubers they would recommend, please let me know.

I don’t know who to ask for references. Since law school I worked at a non profit for 2 years. Then clerked. Was at a firm two months before it closed and now at my current firm. I have one from my supervisor at the nonprofit. But I’m not sure where to get my others. I could get my judge but not sure they’d be willing/have good things to say. We didn’t have a good relationship. Is it okay to ask someone else from the nonprofit or maybe my co-clerk? It’ll be six years but someone from internship?
