What's the best way you've seen or heard microaggressions in the workplace explained? We're working with HR to try and build an internal understanding before we roll out any company wide trainings.

Make it personal. Or explain how it's just as bad or inappropriate as making a comment about a coworkers weight or gender or sexual orientation. It carries the same weight.

I usually explain that microaggressions, in many cases, are made by people who have not been exposed to other cultures but speak with the confidence/authority of the majority. Since society is made for the majority, by the majority, and causes trauma for those who are not the majority those small hits land on previous trauma. A little bit of salt in a wound still hurts.

I then “translate” common microaggressions.

“I don’t see color” = “I can’t accept your culture/race unless I pretend its the same as mine.”

Gender or race not included on a form = “you aren’t welcome.”

It’s a hard topic for some groups. I hope this helps.

Hoping for some advice re: job interviews. How can I respond to questions around measurable impacts of my marketing work on revenue? In previous roles because of lack of resources / attribution system we could only measure things like leads, attendance rate, click rate etc. not the actual final impact on B2B revenue generated. Very good feedback always from management & I believe I did a great job, but feeling I couldn’t point out to real final outcomes. Afraid this will hurt my chances.

Partners in public accounting... any tips on making it to partner? Is a lot of it related to politics? How does the process work... do partners bring up the names of prospective partners to the partner group every year? Is there a "roster" of prospects that is revisited each year?

In honor of National Voter Registration Day, The New Yorker released the transcript of a previously unpublished interview with James Baldwin, who gave a first-hand account of "Freedom Day 1963," a Black voter-registration drive in Selma, Alabama. Baldwin's descriptions from that day are so vivid and detailed that you can feel the fear and anger of the event. If you have a couple of minutes, I highly recommend you read it.

Hi all,

My boss makes jokes about me being from a different country whenever there is a work meeting or a gathering with coworkers, even though he knows where I am from. This usually occurs when I meet new work-related people or for example if I am in a situation that involves ethnic related subjects.

What is this? This is normal?

Stereotyping?
Racism?

The first time I ignored that, but now it has become a pattern and is bothering me now. I am south-American working in the UK.

How do you deal with your “mentor” being threatened by your performance and gatekeeping information from you? Then turning around and giving you shit for not knowing things… but they don’t tell you anything and there is no way for you to know. My learning and development is being hindered and I’ve felt this for a long time, but coworker just confirmed this is the case. Now that I know I’m not “crazy” for thinking this, how should I approach this?

Definitely took the wrong job. I was offered a seriously competitive salary and great benefits to work at a well funded startup, which is great! Turns out the salary and benefits were meant as lowkey bribes to insure I worked at the company without actually doing any work. Every single suggestion I've made has been shut down and I've been ghosted for several meetings with the CEO. What should I do? Just leave?

I'm in desperate need of tips to get genuine buy in from our predominantly white, male senior leadership to create a more inclusive environment. As is often the case, middle management and below is very diverse and then at Director+ it gets much more homogeneous. So far any real initiatives get shot down in favor of performative actions to post on SM. Is this just how it is, or can we try something different?

How do I transition from a Senior Executive Assistant role to Project Management? Ideally I would like to work in tech. How should I go about this?
