I'd like to second this. Although I may have some gripes with my time in the army, I cannot overstate the value I have gotten out of adopting the discipline mentality. You can apply it to all areas of life
Life is very short and we must enjoy every second of it. We must put our hearts in what we do because although many people do not notice it, we do it to improve the lives of many people.

Thanks to the army I have learned to discern, people, decisions, and everything. I feel that everything is thanks to the effort that is made within the ranks of the army to not only become a soldier, but also a good person.

Your superior tells you to do something, you do it. No questions, no dragging your feet, no whining about it either. Everything has a chain of command and you can't break it for anything.
It's not all about you: there are greater purposes behind everything we do, and it's all for the common good. Being a renegade and doing your own thing might look good in the movies but no way in hell would that work in real life.
You have to keep your game face on even when you feel like you're a moment away from your breaking point. If you don't, it's not just yourself you're putting at risk. Other guys are always watching you. Maybe you couldn't do something if it were just for yourself, but if you keep in mind that you'd be letting your company down if you failed, people are capable of growing far beyond the limits we allow ourselves to create.
It's not possible to do anything on your own, and there are no "self-made" people; we're all here because of the sacrifices our ancestors made. And they were extreme. Helps me keep things in perspective whenever I'm worried about making the mortgage payment or whatever other personal issue I'm having. Because the fact of the matter is that I do have a home to live in, and this isn't something to take lightly.
