This is not me but few others really thought that they will be advising the C-suite just because they have a MBA and are getting into consulting. Few even refused to create decks saying they have a MBa and cresting decks was beneath them. Well wild horses got a reality check and got tamed after mid year
That fact that my work and life is so up in the air. Everyday there is the risk a client leaves -contract changes - scope is no longer what we thought. Consultants can not be married to routine or the idea of a stable plan. We always have to accept the idea that things will change today. Right now and at a moments notice. I have never found individuals outside of consulting to understand that.
Pretty much the same misconceptions my friends have of me now. They only see the romanticized version of consulting on snapchat/Instagram. The flying, fancy hotels, upgraded car rentals, free drinks, etc. But they don't see the 12 hour work days + weekend work
No one told me 75% of my time would be spent making sure all my slides are formatted consistently 🙄
If you don't like your project, you can easily switch to another.
MC1- HAHAHAH, or "we want to align you to projects in your area of interest." Yeah right.
The fancy "strategy" work. It's a bunch of bull, we're glorified PMO. ACN1 hit it on the nose... Friends thing traveling is so much fun. Not when you do it for 40 weeks out of the year...
"Manage your career" HAHAH
"You'll have so much exposure and variety". We get branded after our first project and then they try and stick us on a long term gig to ensure being billable.
That you can actually 'grow your own way'
Oh ya and my gf thinks consulting is only a 4 day workweek since I'm home on Fridays.
"Lots of training/learning opportunities provided"... Uhhh more like mandatory CPE's on courses I don't care to know, go read crap on your own, and no approvals on training I really want or need to grow myself
That all clients actually want you there
Was gone for 2 weeks and when I came back the first thing my roommate asked was "how was your vacation?" Vacation??
A 3 means you're meeting all expectations, so you're doing an amazing job and should be pleased with yourself.
Consulting is not for you if you're introverted
Everyone is NOT smart. Definitely plenty of dumb people
I didn't realize pmo was a thing before joining. I think it's unfortunately a necessary evil, though.
Hahaha I third "grow your own way". What a load.
