My opinion.... We have a bigger opportunity than our male counter parts in this industry.
Biggest challenge... 4 years in a very hostile agency environment...constant harasment and discrimination.. Toxic environment. Wish I had had the guts to openly hold them accountable and sue them.... Amazing how a few years changes the public opinion on this subject. It was so blatant but none of the women felt they could say anything without being demoted or fired. No one wanted to collaborate what was happening. Some day I want to create a speaking engagement regarding my experience..... To empower new advisors, and help make male advisors more aware of the situation. This industry, although it has come along ways. Still has a long way to go!!
I have been in the industry for a few decades. In my experience women are better able to form deeper relationships with clients and in general better connect with them, male and female alike. Not trying to be sexist but I’ve had a numerous clients comment on their comfort level with me over male advisors they’ve had. Don’t let your gender handicap you - if you demonstrate competence, caring, and confidence, and clients feel you have their best interest at the forefront of all you do, you’ll be very successful!
I think my biggest obstacle was letting dudes get in my head. I always had a clear idea of how I wanted to run my biz, but so many of my colleagues thought my ideas were silly. Now I value my own opinion 10x and others’ opinions 1x. Not looking back, and trying to take more women with me.
Getting distracted by looking at attractive male colleagues LOL
