Small firm. I have a very brief meeting with the managing partners the week before Christmas and they tell me what my salary will be the following year and what my bonus is. I’ll report back next week lol.
Justify your number with your billing rate, your billing quota, and the multiplier. All are negotiable, assuming you've made your boss's life easier.
correction: I saw another post below. Lockstep places are definitely more set in stone, but you can still try to go for bonuses.
All depends on where you work. If at a medium or large firm and an associate, salary is commonly lockstep by class year with yearly raises and bonus increases. We always get an annual raise to keep up with COL and seniority, plus this year we got two additional COL raises. In Feb we are told what our bonus will be.
Mid-sized Canadian firm. We have lockstep bonuses based on year call. This year, raises are significant to compensate for the level of competition over junior associates (2-5 year call)
