I love a man with strong "statement sock" game.
Smiles too much
My first manager said that to me too...
At my last firm I had to tell a resource not to vape at their desk in a clients office...
Clearly EY1 is referring to a cubicle-sized heap of natural gas-rich shale that also happened to be dealing with nicotine dependency.
“Don’t wear sweaters in summer to hide your wrinkled shirts.”
Don’t abstain from alcohol in front of the client or else they will think I’m judging them
“i know everyone on the team sucks and nobody is meeting expectations. your feedback has been clear and appropriate and i’ve appreciated it, but they’re feeling stressed. so if there’s anything you could do to sugarcoat it a little more, that would be great.”
I was responsible for the delay of a project that already late before I joined it
Too eager to please the client 😂
Captain America: Whatever it takes!
I once got a late evening email from a client asking me to wear more conservative dresses, show less cleavage and wear less perfume. Being a straight, married male, it was quite a head-scratcher in my hotel room that evening.
Turns out the client meant to send it to someone on their team and had no explanation as to why they sent it to me - didn’t even claim their name started with similar letters.
Are there buttons at the top of a shirt ???
Try to look older. To be fair I got their intent but yeah....
Try to look less old
"Your confidence as a young female comes off as arrogance to us old guys. You should work on that."
I recently saw this exact feedback happen between white and black individuals. There was no arrogance being displayed by the black individual.
About 15 years ago my boss told me to smile more. It was the only way he could explain why I hadn’t been promoted. I was pissed at his lame reasoning. Fwiw I’m a male.
Anyways, I took the feedback and now intentionally smile more- I think it’s worked in my favor, or at least nobody tells me to smile more.
I wasn’t American enough. No kidding, Im European. Wish I had reported my miserable Midwestern supervisor to HR back then. She actually put this into writing.
Back in industry as I was taking an out of state promotion
"Only way you can screw this up is to f*ck one of the front office staff so please don't do that"
Lol I definitely did not but totally understood once I got there and saw how hot they were...
I was told to stop being funny bcz people shouldn’t laugh at work.
Yeah, I was once explaining a concept to an analyst with funny metaphors, to lighten the mood in a project that has everyone overworked and depressed and the partner cane by to tell us that we shouldn’t be laughing. This was once everyone at the client had left.
“Some Beer and Bacon wouldn’t harm you” ... I am Muslim
That sounds like a lawsuit waiting to happen.
That instead of escalating an issue to my manager, I should have been more proactive and escalated to a different manager that wasn’t on my team.
Don’t use a ritz pen, so we don’t remind
the client how expensive we are.
We were told to not take the convertibles or BMW from the rental agency even if they were free upgrades, for optics.
Giggle less
Sure as shit is
I was told to to stop being so polite. I couldn’t believe it like using good manners is a bad thing.
Now a days I tell leadership how still reminds me that I am to polite to f-off or I will report you to HR
