They’re also viewed as lower quality / less safe in general, even though building quality has improved greatly in the last few years and they are now often safer than traditional builds.
And finally, they are so cheap to build (relatively) that prospective buyers are more likely to build their own prefab home than to buy yours.
So depreciation + poor perception + low cost to build = poor resale value and poor investment.
But if you’re just looking for a cheap place to live and aren’t worried about resale, could be a good option.
It’s the (gougingly) high and climbing lot rent. I read a whole story in the Chronicle about it. A lot of the population is elderly who are being pushed out by high lot rent.
