What's the difference between ESSA and NCLB?

The acronym? I think that’s pretty much it.

ESSA allows states to test areas that they think are best for their students. Also, it strips mandates from testing that states have to meet 100% proficiency by a certain dates. Furthermore, it allows states to set their own targets instead of the federal government setting target levels. Finally, ESSA allows for more data points when scoring a school, where as NCLB usually focused on ELA/Reading and Math.

This may be a totally bizarre question but is anyone else obsessed with Outlander? I can’t stop binge-watching. It’s all I think about. Do I need help?

I applied two different roles at McKinsey yesterday: a specialist role and an implementations role. How long does it take before a recruiter responds for these types of roles?

I am currently a QA Testing Engineer however I always wanted to be a lawyer(i am in my early 30s). I am very good at my job and can see a future where I am a product analyst/project manager in a couple of years. But I am wondering if I should go back to law school and pursue that or stay on my career path…

Took advantage of my self-isolation to fully marie-kondo my apartment. Now I need to take a giant pile of stuff to Goodwill. I guess it will sit in my closet until this coronavirus situation clears up

Hello BCG Platinion folks, what kind of projects are you working on? Interested in US markets

I moved from a family/criminal practice to insurance defense as staff counsel for a major insurer. Big jump in pay. Not sure what I should be trying to do next. Should I hire a career coach?

Silly question- but how do you work from home? I could do it in small amounts and with small projects with simple things. But I can’t do any type of excel work or testing on my small laptop. I’m thinking about setting up an office for two screens and a standing desk. Would work reimburse that? (If they are primarily WFH)

I am debating doing a solo trip (no idea to where) but I’ve never done one before. I’m scared it’ll be super lonely and I’m not sure how dining alone would be. I am also worried about safety (I’m a woman in my early 30s). Most of my friends are married with kids and I’m single so hard to plan a trip with friends, this the solo trip idea. Any tips / thoughts? Budget isn’t really an issue.

Any idea what salary range is for assistant and associate director in CBS (central region)? My ppedd wont tell me any range details, so trying to make sure I have reasonable expectations.

Any tips on transitioning from a senior designer to ui/visual designer? Should I take a course? Study ux and ui even though I want to focus on UI?

How are experienced hires vs recent grads treated at top consulting firms? I understand that each branch of each firm will be different from the other and it depends on the leadership. But have there been any uniform truths that people have noticed?

Student Recognized me while bagging my Groceries: Saw a former student (Didn't recognize initially) today at the grocery store who was working and asked me if I was in fact his former teacher. He said he didn't remember my name but remembered my personal interest of cars and motorcycles. Has anyone else run into former students from several years ago this Holiday season and have them view your class as positive enough to strike up a conversation even if they did forget your name? :)

Yay! Something to look forward to- One World: Together at Home Concert is today. What a lineup! It reminds me of the Live Aid Concert of the 80s, except we're all at home. Will you be watching?

How do you ‘unplug’ and relax after a long week of teaching? I just watched the entire second season of Bridgerton.

I've never taught high school, but I have in middle school for 3 years. I know what they need most is someone to listen to them. Is this the same in high school? What do you think?

My budget at this point!

My high school will be moving to a 4 by 4 block schedule next year, and our middle school is currently on a 7 period day. The schools are on the same campus so there is a lot of teacher overlap which is the main issue. Middle school state tests are only administered in May, so there’s no way for our middle school to also shift to the block. What alternate schedules does your middle school use? What solution do you see to the problem?

Tips for balancing grad school classes at night and work? I currently teach 3 different preps and I’m taking two classes this semester (on campus). Any advice is appreciated!

Do you think a teacher would be good at holding public office?

I am fed up with parents not making appointments for conferences and just showing up. Parents have communication from me by paper and electronically. This is unprofessional. I can’t just show up at my doctor’s office and expect to see her.
