Im not searching for a new job but an acquaintance reached out about a similar role at a similar energy company.Turns out 2 ppl threw my name in the hat. I looked into it and the position was posted 2 weeks ago.Their director wants to meet.I bet pay is one of the first things to be discussed so that no one’s time is wasted.Am I crazy for not wanting to entertain it for less than 20-25% base pay increase? Is it selfish to ask for more? I’m sure most salary conversations end in negotiation anyways?

1. Evidence that they can come through with the goods. 2. They have creativity outside of advertising represented in their portfolio. 3. Not every job on their resume lasted only 1 year long. 4. They’d not be exactly like everyone else on the team. 5. And they prove ego-free (interviews/references).
Are they necessary?

Whether they can keep their subject-verb agreement and/or parallel listing going (j/k - I know we need an edit button on these posts).
All snark aside, I mostly look at how it all adds up on a cost-benefit level. Where will their style plug in, and is that something I need consistently? How often will I need it? Will they be working consistently (but not to the point of crunch), or will they be bench warming unless a specific client needs their work? Can they write in other languages? How well, and how often is that needed?
If there's a net gain there (which at least offsets their salary but hopefully does more than that), make an approach. If not, I keep them in my network, but I don't make any promises.
