What’s the general consensus around starting a new job, knowing that you’ll be having a baby 4-5 months in... should you tell them? Are you likely to not qualify for mat/pat leave?

OP, the best thing to do is to review their policy/ employee handbook regarding maternity leave. There are no obligations to tell your employer at a given time but, I did tell GH when at my 2 bd trimester while I have been employed for 1 week. Had the greatest comfort and warm congratulations from HR and my manager. If the place doesn’t accept you, then, they don’t deserve you.

Depends on where you are employed. At Guidehouse, you are eligible for maternity benefits after 90 days of employment with 12-16 weeks leave at 100% pay.

One of my employees had a baby 6 months after she was hired by my firm, and 5.5 months after I brought her on to my project. She didn't mention it until she rolled on to the project. If became very clear during her 4 months of maternity leave that I couldn't get the work done without her. I've fast-tracked her for promotion. In summary, don't tell them. It's illegal for them to discriminate against you, so don't give them the opportunity.
