What’s the least amount of notice can I give for an OOO email? Taking only 1.5 days OOO but with 5-days notice. Is this enough?

More than enough.

It doesn't matter. Whatever you give won't be enough/will get ignored, and you'll still get yelled at for not giving anyone a heads-up.

Depends on matters/context as in all things

Unless very junior, 0 days if you are confident you won’t be needed and/or will be checking in on emails every few hours with willingness to handle real emergencies

I would say very junior includes first and second year for sure. For the year after that it I’d expect you to have this flexibility, but it would be subject to your judgement if this is a fit for your relationship with your partners. By fourth or fifth year this should absolutely be the case.

How do I answer the question “why are you leaving your current company”? Without shitting on my current company?

For background, my company hired me and 6 other sales people back in August 2021, I’ve had 3 different VP of Sales since then, have literally 2 customers on our product in my vertical. Marketing and product are horrible, the CMO is the CEO’s daughter and she’s only ever worked for my company.

Can we be honest for a second? No one has a clear policy for how we should be billing our time and no one wants to ask. I’ve heard perspectives ranging from, “a good faith estimate at the end of the week is sufficient” to “you need to have a timer going at all times and if you don’t turn it off when you pee, you’re committing an ethical violation”... also, “Bill anything that moves the deal forward” vs. “You can’t bill for collating documents. That’s not legal work.”

What kind of signing bonuses are litigation associates able to get when lateraling currently? I know corporate is more desperately in demand than litigation, but I've seen some signing bonuses for litigation. Class of 2018.

Also, I remember seeing a recruiter sometime ago whose model was to share part of their fee with the associate (sort of like a rebate real estate agent). I can't seem to find anyone like that on Google now, so I'm wondering if anyone has any leads on that.

2nd year here: just got reamed multiple times by a partner in a checklist call for not having enough detail in my open items list. Thing is the draft i had sent the midlevel was far more detailed, they told me to remove it all and make it as barebones as possible. Do I just take this L? I'm pretty annoyed because the partner mentioned it TWICE in the call with clients for my lack of detail.

Midlevel didnt apologize or even acknowledge this issue. I've never been so mad in my career.

There is a good case for higher year end bonuses this year. All in comp is down in 2022 taking into account special bonuses last year. So unless PPP takes a real hit, I’d like to see a modest bonus increase. Doubt PPP is going to be down by that much (in many cases not at all) for the top 30 firms. And with firms trimming fat, that should mean higher bonuses for those that are left. Idk about the rest of you, but my firm feels as busy as ever (M&A).

Are signing bonuses still a thing? For a 7th yr M&A associate in major market / top firm? Not wedded to my current firm and scored a six figure signing bonus a year ago. Wouldn’t be opposed to another large pay day (and ramp down / ramp up hours) now that I’ve passed the claw back period.

I’m currently a third year in my small firm’s life sciences team. I’m not really stimulated by the work and although they say they have a lot of work, they’re not good at managing workload. However, I am concerned how I’ll manage the workload as a mom to a toddler. The good thing about my firm is that they’re flexible with hours. Anyone have experience balancing?
