What's the longest anyone has fasted? Let's say I wanted to fast for 48 hours, are there any health benefits to doing that 1x a week?

48 hrs in one shot, once a week? That seems excessive. From what I’ve read, those kinds of fasts are beneficial 3-4 times a year.

I've read everything to fast at all kinds of intervals. Tired of reading and interested if anyone has personal experiences with something other than the 16hr fast

72 hours. I know people who did water fast for 10 days and wouldn’t be surprised if one of them pops up here.

For anything more than 24 hours, I’d recommend doing it less frequently. Let’s say once or twice a month tops.

The benefits include increased autophagy, internal healing and moving into ketosis in which the body burns fat, instead of other sources, for fuel resulting in weight loss.

I'm not a doctor, so none of these are recommendations, just talking about my own experiences. I do 3 day fasts like once a quarter or twice a year if I skip a quarter, and I've done the 48 hours worth of fasts once a week protocol. Other comments are right in that longer fasts can be stressful for the body, but if you shorten it up and do 2 24 hour fasts a week (think dinner to dinner) then you can implement 48 hrs worth of fasting into a week no problem. Fasting is great for one's health, and a 24 hr fast twice a week is a great substitute if you would prefer to do that instead of daily intermittent fasting. Longer fasting has its benefits, but again if you do them too often they'll have their own set of tolls on the body. The 3 day fasts are great if I'm falling off keto by the time the next quarter rolls around. They completely reset my food and sugar cravings, making it easy to get back into my preferred way of eating. The one thing with the 3 day fasts is that it will be hard to do if you aren't busy. Being bored will make it much harder to get through without eating, but you'll never have felt more focused if you are workinh while doing the extended fast.

I've done a week straight, and following that I've done less than 50cal/day for an additional 2 weeks.

I had no energy problems after the first 3-4 days. But the 3rd and 4th day was brutal. I felt like I'd collapse. After that, I'd occasionally crave food / be hungry, but I always had enough energy to work.

I lost ~1lb a day

r/fasting is a good resource. Generally speaking, I think it's better to fast over an extended period rather than periodically. Periodically is good for weight loss, but the "theory" (use that word very lightly) is that cleansing takes time.

Please clear anything that is drastic with your doctor first. 1-2 days is probably fine (from my non medical view), but I'd be concerned for anything longer or doing it regularly without a medically approved planned.

And also, no one on this thread is aware of any medical issues you may have that would impact feasibility.

Real good explanation on the benefits of fasting. https://youtu.be/bHdoAhZyP3I

Before anyone should give advice here... why are you doing it? What is the Goal of the fast?

Disagree. P1 stated why People, generally, will do it. Not necessarily the reason why OP is doing it. Achieving health and fitness goals is extremely specific and individual. Is it for fat loss? Is it for lean muscle gain? Do you want more energy? Less energy? Detox? Feeling healthier? There are optimal ways to approach these goals. Fasting might be the right choice, but we need to know more...

Watch the Goop episode on this!

Read the “Guide to Intermittent Fasting” book..it explains all the short and long fasts. I just started with the 16:8 daily, it’s kinda easy and almost no effort. I eat between 11am to 7pm, or 12 to 8pm. The book recommended a 24 hour fast, followed by 16:8 the next day..with option to do up to three 24 hr fasts in a week. I prefer the daily 16:8 because it gives me a routine and feels effortless. Many say to make fasting more effective, pair it with A moderate/low carb diet (and if you can handle keto, do it

I try 18/6 fasting but end up going longer. First started with 16/8. Its hard at the beginning especially if the diet is not clean. Found it’s easiest to transition to longer fast cycle by cutting carbs and any processed food and alcohol. I Use app Zero to track the fasts (snapshot from today below) Today felt like I could keep going overnight and would be 48 hrs by mid morning, but ate after 25 hrs and feel fine. Whoever mentioned staying busy is spot on. Being on calls all day leaves no time for eating or snaking. Morning i do black coffee and drink lot of water throughout the day. Afternoon I would do tea green or herbal to fight hunger when I thought I couldn’t last. Sparkling water helps too, i go for san pelegrino, since its plane. Im no doctor and everyone is different, I do it to reduce a about 20 lbs of fat, have overall healthier body and decrease inflammation.

When your firm requires billable hours, how are they calculated? Actual vs realized (I.e. what you put on your billing sheet vs what is billed to the client). Does your firm differentiate? Which number do they go by? My mind is somehow not comprehending how some big law hours are under my small firm requirement?
