What’s the most advantageous way to pay for engagement ring? I’ve got the cash saved but was curious if paying with a credit card for points plays. Also have ESPP cash I was considering. Any advice?

I had to stretch the budget a little, so went with a 0% APR for 6 months financing option. Paid it off within 5 months, so it worked out.

Was this to reap the benefits of credit card points? Or did you go financing through the jeweler?

The most advantageous way to pay for an engagement ring is to not pay for an engagement ring. The second most advantageous way to pay for an engagement ring is to buy one that is not marking up the value of an artificially scarce commodity which loses 75% of its value the second you walk out of the store. For all those mortals (like me) who couldn’t avoid the first, please at least seriously consider the second. Mossanite is your friend.

I bought my diamond from a broker online, but they required a money order. They were not willing to take the 2% discount for a credit card in $8k.

Offer up cash and see how much negotiation they will do on the price. For me I got 10% off and bumped up to the top of the waiting list. It was like a 6 to 7 week turn around to get the diamond and band put together. Got it in 4 days.

Whatever you choose insure it immediately. My wife’s diamond fell out about 4 years in and our dedicated State Farm policy for it covered the entire replacement value. Honestly manufactured diamonds look better now and are better for humans and wallets.
