What’s the most petty thing you’ve seen a firm do to an attorney who is lateraling out? Mine just revoked my renewal paperwork and payment for 2021-22 bar dues, even though they’ve already submitted it I’ll still be an employee when they’re due (7/1). Money’s not the issue. They can dock the $400 from my final check for all I care. The administrative hassle is the petty part, and it’s so inconsequential that it genuinely made me chuckle. I don’t even blame them. Kinda respect the hustle tbh.

I think asking an associate to leave immediately after giving notice is petty. It makes the situation shitty for the departing associate and the associates who now have go figure out what the hell is going on with the matters.

My old firm would ask departing associates to leave much sooner than the customary exit date, though usually not like the same day. OPs story though is just insane.

Once had a (very tiny) firm strongly imply that I "owed" them the premium for the malpractice insurance that would be wasted because I gave notice in the earlier part of the year...they also heavily implied that I committed an ethics violation by not telling them I was looking for another job.

Would love some opinions, moms. Because of covid, I’ve kept my kids home since March 2020. I predict we will not have spent $5k on dependent care in 2020 that we elected last year. Almost but not quite. It’s open enrollment time, should I elect the some amount for 2021?

For California HR folks: I know this is probably super obvious but I want to be sure I’m right… if Company policy states that hourly employees based in California earn 1 hour of PTO for every 40 Hours worked, and the accrued PTO is paid out upon termination, is this policy compliant under CA law?
