Senior marketing analytics analyst
3 years out you should be approaching senior analyst if you aren’t.
it’s also a good time to explore client side of vendor side. 3-6 years is the sweet spot when demand far exceeds supply. you can do good work on your own (unlike someone with 6 months of experience) but aren’t commanding Director salaries yet. teams want lots of analysts at that level. explore a new media or grow your skill set (Python, etc) is you don’t know already
In all seriousness, figure out what data discipline you want to pursue further be that data implementation, data visualization, data science, data strategy, etc.. Do you want to be a practitioner or manage? Do you like a diversity of accounts or do you like more ownership? Answer those questions and then decide where to head, be that agency side, client side, or back to school
Agencies are -meh- at the moment. I would go to another advertiser within the same vertical if possible if you prefer. I believe CPG is where there are the most data to work with
salary-wise ? depends on the city. Mid 70s depending on how technical you are.
what are you at now ? I’d say mid 70s. wouldn’t rule out low 80s.
I went from analyst to managing the analytics team at an agency after 2-3 years. Good part is I get to mentor and learn management. Soft skills become your priority. Downside is the hard technical skills aren’t as much part of your day to day, so it’s easy to get rusty. I brush up on SQL and teach myself Python and R on my own time just to keep up.
Currently on the advertiser side at a CPG company - made the jump from Agency 1 year ago exactly ... should I be asking for that promotion?
New York area
@Analytics Manager 1 - Not OP, but are those languages difficult? Already self taught HTML and CSS.
@Senior Analyst 1 - Where would you learn data strategy and data visualization? Data strategy seems more like a "network and stick with brand strategists" sorta thing, but I've got no idea where to learn about data visualization.
Around that time I was a senior analyst and trying to decide what kind of analytics I wanted to dig deeper into. I knew I wanted to stay digital (did both traditional and digital reporting) and I knew I wanted to do more products vs campaigns. Figure out what you haven't learned yet, and what you want to learn.
Echoing what AM1 said, where hard skills are less emphasized in terms of learning once you reach a certain point (but having some wide knowledge helps you mentor/manage).
tableau on demand training.
Tbh I’m mid-60’s 😭
@mediacom 1 they all build on each other. I use Udemy courses to keep myself focused and not get lost. Also they give you access to test datasets that are easy to use.
