How do you balance your 401k? Should I be keeping some cash on hand in case of downturns?

Recently left my previous employer and am trying to decide what to do with my 401K. I am able to roll it to my new employer, but have been thinking about converting it to an IRA and then subsequently converting that to a Roth over the next 3-5 years. I know this conversion is considered income in the year I convert, and therefore taxable in that year. Any other fish recently think through this? Any key things you considered when deciding what to do with your 401K?

Hello, EAs! I work for a small PE Consulting firm where I have been the EA to the CEO, CAO and MDs for 4 years (15 YOE).

I’m transitioning into a more ops/HR function developing our HR dept (we currently use a PEO) from scratch and will have 3 EAs reporting to me. I will be heavily involved in recruiting, benefits, payroll, 401K, training, mentoring, morale & culture & moderately involved in biz dev and marketing.

What would be an appropriate title for this role?

Is anyone able/allowed to explain how equity works at firms like AlixPartners and Alvarez & Marsal? Is it similar to a pension at Big 4? (Cross posting w/ the Consulting Bowl.)

If I’m confident that taxes will be higher in the future, would it make more sense to use a mega backdoor Roth IRA conversion and not contribute to a 401k at all? I’m in high tax state and our family MAGI prevents direct Roth IRA contributions.

I stopped contributing to my 401K for the last three months in order to pay off credit card debt. I am 28 and have about 68K in my 401K. Was this a smart decision? I want to get out of debt as quickly as possible and I have no student loans or car debt.

Does rolling over a Roth 401k into your Roth IRA at this time make any difference? Like is there a specific moment to wait for or you just do it? (Leaving my company soon, hence I’m asking)

Let’s say you have a junior working on a pretty big, fast moving campaign. I’m still learning how to provide great feedback, so it’s partially on me; but in directing them, they’re just not getting it.

What’s the move after 2-3 rounds of copy? Do I jump in and try and work it? Do I provide a few examples without outright writing it and explain why those versions “work” Vs. their copy?
