Fear mongering at its best

Say it does happen...then what? How does someone prepare for this? I never really know what to do after reading these types of articles

like

Yea that’s something to consider. We both have pretty stable jobs and plenty of savings in cash. I’m not really that worried. If things get so bad that we both lose our jobs and our cash is worthless, society is basically unraveling and none of it matters anyway.

It means nothing. It’s the end of society if this happens - quite honestly, no point in “preparing” for this unless you have a cabin in Alaska.

There is no way that 97% of the world loses 80% of their savings and everyone else is like “oh I made a bunch of $$$”. Money only works if there is a societal contract.

A situation like this is going to end up having repercussions like the equivalent of the French Revolution. Think about the “rat gangs” in NYC where a rats invade other rat territories because there is no garbage to eat around them. The human equivalent of that.

Just hope these predictions are wrong - because it really will be the end of society.

Recently saw an article that 50% of restaurants in NYC will go under. That is a lot of people out of work. Multiply this across the country and yes it could be another housing bust.

I suppose I was highlighting this taking point “In addition, a survey by the American Hotel Lodging Association found that 74% of US hotels say more layoffs are coming if the industry doesn't get additional federal assistance.”

Maybe if the global ecobomy crashes we can finally work towards a better economic solution that works for the people.

I’m not anywhere near an expert in this, but the article is pretty well reasoned.

The current maker is artificial at the moment. The feds are buys a ton of bonds, EFT’s and probably stocks.

If the Fed is doing this, it’s because there’s no market for a lot of that junk.

What will this do to cash? Are we expecting deflation or inflation? Because if it's inflation then selling stocks at the top and sitting on cash won't help I assume

Put 1%+ of your money in bitcoin as a hedge

No one knows. I wouldnt give into fear mongering, but I would make sure you diversify your investments and have some cash on hand.

A financial crash is usually a combination of accumulating debt and a psychological loss of confidence in financial institutions. Thanks to Bush, Obama and Trump, we have plenty of debt. But panic hasnt happened yet and people are getting by, so everything can carry on - for now.

I can’t believe people are taking this seriously. The mega-bears make a business from predicting economic doom and playing into people’s worst fears. I suppose Roubini was right once and has been riding on that ever since. I guess even a broken clock is right twice a day.

I have a contingent offer after being laid off in spring due to COVID. Since then the job market has obviously been tough, so a few buddies and I started a start up that has done very well, but we haven’t filed for LLC status yet (keeps pushing back). We have ~10 guys working on various areas. I just received an offer back in my usual industry, and have been truthful in my experiences. Will they ding me in a background check since there’s no 1099 to prove formal employment? FYI I have references

Whose hiring in SAP Security/GRC?

I am so anxious right now! Just got a job offer 2 weeks ago and still waiting on the written offer letter. I asked for an update and the recruiter reached out 2 days ago letting me know that they had some final requirements that should be approved that day so they can send the offer letter out. It’s been 2 days. My question is can I message the recruiter for an update? Will that be too annoying?

A former colleague from some years ago told me my old team was hit by layoffs. Basically all the people I worked with there once upon a time, including a few lifers who were there through '08. Do I reach out and say anything or no?

Seen a couple posts floating around pitting boomers against millennials. Eventually though aren’t many millennials going to receive this wealth as boomers age and pass away? I have several friends working low/middle income jobs who have parents who currently support them and will further when they pass via large nest eggs. Mind if we talk iPhones for a sec? I just upgraded from an 8 to a 12 Mini and I’m having buyer’s remorse. I miss the home button and the upgrades don’t even feel that special, except the speed. Also, do you miss the home button or just get used to it? Thanks.

Went through my first experience of booking a rental car. Showing up to said city and them not having any rental cars available.

I’m assuming it’s backlash from COVID when some rental car companies filed chapter 11 because they were leasing cars that no one was driving.

Anyways after 5 hours of searching for inventory throughout the entire city I finally found one.
