depends on where but if in NY i think 90-100k
Agreed
Below are some very non-scientific, word-of-mouth ballpark generalizations I’ve heard, though I’m eager to learn more on this thread. Glassdoor can also be helpful.
For smaller and agency side in NY, my understanding is the range is around 90-120, maybe lower if it’s a very small studio or focused on non-commercial work, maybe 70-90. For in-house, advertising or tech, it can be higher, such as 100-140+, and if you’re full time in tech you probably get equity or a bonus on top of your base salary.
When I was at Spotify (freelance) I made 110 and took a pay cut to go full time to agency side to 90.
If you get some interviews/offers, please report back on what you’re offered!
As many have said, it is very dependent on location and company. I am in Chicago working at a fairly large global agency, and make 110K.
As the first person said it's location-dependent (probably the biggest factor) but can also vary greatly depending on the company, the type of work they do, how much they value design and how valuable you are to them (ie. they may pay more for someone they think is really talented). There are a lot of variables, so it's impossible to give you even a ballpark... this isn't a line of work that tends to have specific pay scales. Be sure to do your research based on your city and the type of company you're working for or interviewing with, get intel from recruiters if they reach out to you, and post some more details here; maybe we can give you a more specific answer.
In education in the UK, it's around 30-35k as a senior graphic designer. Which I think is ridiculous!
Midwest agency and I make 85k
Not senior level, but if it's helpful data... I'm in a mid-level role, remote but Boston/NY based company that I believe pays pretty well. My salary is 90K as a visual designer that is more a brand design focused role.
