Don't get in it in the first place.
Don’t have even one piece of pharma in your book, it will taint the whole book. Keep a separate book just for your old pharma stuff, just in case.
I don’t buy into the idea that a single piece could taint your book, especially for a designer. You just want stuff in your book that looks great. For an AD or CW, your focus should be ideas, story, concept. If work you did on Pharma is conceptual and a creative campaign, how is that any different from campaigns for other clients?
I worked in DM for too long. Never would I ever compare that work to the general work I or others have done. And pharma work, as a category, generally stinks.
Do you know a lot of people at your pharma agency going to the general side? Or social or content?
Usually, from what I have seen, people stay in pharma and stay in DM once there
Not needing job security anymore.

I’m now working at a content agency doing digital and social and enjoying things immensely.
You may have to do some spec, but just make sure your portfolio is good.
Personally, even with all the DM we I did, I put a line in the sand about never doing pharma
