Well, you kind of need to like grooming yourself if that makes sense. I love doing my nails, getting my hair done and figuring out my work outfits the night before. I also enjoy shopping for work clothes and maintain an up to date wardrobe too. I’d say I don’t look well put together accidentally but admit that I rather enjoy the process? Also, Mr. dry cleaner is my best friend.
Key successes over the last 6 years for me
•Brazilian Blowout- but as them to lower the potency so I have big waves instead of straight hair but it’s not frizzy. Touch up with wand in am.
•Dry Shampoo
•Before conferences or big meetings I’ll get a blowout on a Sunday I can maintain almost all week
•Gradual self tanner
•Suits & Dresses that fit me well I will buy in multiple colors and wear them rotating
•Neutral Shoes
•Sheet face masks every Monday night in the hotel
•Minimal Makeup / quarterly facials
•under eye depuffing cream
•Botox
Yea this expensive, I’ve actually told my Partner during mid year meetings I need a salary increase to support the maintenance of travel stress on my skin, it’s expensive AF being a woman.
What eye cream / sheet masks do you use?
You are all lovely and must be great at work because these are awesome suggestions!
Now, if only I could get a higher salary to pay for everything 👀
Stay beautiful, friends.
I fell in love with a dress design and use poshmark to buy it in every color. An $80 dress i can get there for $20 and most of the time you cant tell its been worn. Also check out Korean skin care like Faceshop for good quality at cheap prices.
In dire need of a glow up,

I so hear you. I’m one too!
If you find yourself struggling for time in the mornings, it's been a life changer for me to get my hair permanently straightened and my eyebrows microbladed. Two small things that make a world of difference!
The Brazilian blowout lasts for about 3 months if you use their shampoo
I spend so much on makeup, clothing, shoes and hair but I still end up looking like crap each morning. And you know why? I don't exercise, I don't take care of my skin and I underestimate the amount of time it'll take me to get ready each morning. And I hate planning my outfits the night before bc the weather in my area is unpredictable and I may not "feel"like wearing a certain piece the morning of. I need to do better. I have a closet full of expensive clothes and drawers of makeup from Sephora but if you aren't investing time in taking care of your skin, body, sleep, you'll never look great. Slowly but surely I've started to invest in skincare, take care of my eating habits and go to bed earlier. It's a work in progress. But yes, I am always impressed at those who manage to look great daily.
Daily Harvest helps me get fruits and veggies into my diet which I think helps my skin. Try a primer like Becca which is a highlighter and a moisturizer like Murad with vitamin C.
Fellow slob here, preach OP!
I've noticed a bog difference in small changes. A nicer bag (rather than a Jansport), quality shoes (instead of Payless flats) and hanging your clothes (instead of stuffing them into the suitcase and living out of it all week) can help - or go wrinkle free with sweaters and blouses. Develop good habits one at a time, so they are sustainable.
Lastly, if your clothes feel frumpy and sad, explore fit. Sometimes ill-fitting clothing is what keeps a decent look from looking great.
No, just an idea to change up your hairstyle. I do straighten or curl daily.
Honestly who has time for more than 10 min in the morning?! I put my hair in a ponytail and I put on a tiny bit of makeup and call it a day. I see women in my office who are super done up and if you do the math, I think even 30 min per day comes out to an insane total amount of time per year
BA1 - if it's brushed, put up/ polished, what do you care of my hair is wet? My hair takes over 40 minutes to blow dry. That's a hard nope each morning, unless I have a key meeting or I'm tryna get laid. Sorry not sorry.
I brush it, dry it with a towel and put it in a low bun. I take "letting my hair down" seriously - after work.
And to preemptively address the "do it the night before" argument ... I workout in the AM, because it gives me the energy and endorphins I need to prevent me from killing ppl. I'm not skipping my workout to go do my hair up for people who won't appreciate it.
Same boat here. I’m good on hair/makeup etc but hate clothes shopping and really haven’t found my look.
M1- I hate clothes shopping because of body image issues and never being content with my weight. I’m “average” build (size 6) but very insecure about my midsection and obsess over hiding my belly. I find shopping very discouraging because I see pieces I like and then hate how they look on me
Where do you find a good tailor?
I find that having a uniform helps a lot. Get a flattering, low maintenance haircut (I wear mine very short) and don't stray from it. Have a stylist help you develop a simple palette and silhouette that works for you, to take the decisions out of shopping and packing. Invest a lot in the things you wear everyday (black pumps, bag, watch). Keep makeup simple: groomed eyebrows, mascara, tinted lip balm.
If you keep it simple, you'll get good at it and it won't seem like a hassle.
I like Burt’s bees tinted balms! Not the shimmers but the ones in the normal containers. Baby Lips is great too.
Any suggestions here? I wear makeup and get my hair and nails done regularly but I absolutely hate hate hate clothes shopping and tend to wear all black all the time for work as it makes everything easy
I hate it too but MM LaFleur actually made it kinda fun / you can book an appointment with a couple friends, they curate a closet and give you some champagne plus they put the clothes away - it’s pricey but it makes it a bit more enjoyable and they seem (I’ve only tried it once) to have a few good travel staples
Rationale skincare is an investment but their whole thing is about making your skin so good you don’t need makeup. It’s also the only thing that has saved mine with all the flying.
For clothes, good quality fabrics make the biggest difference. Everlane, Grana, Kit & Ace and even Uniqlo use real silks, cashmere, merino wool, etc. while remaining good value for money (<$200 per piece). K&A (owned by Lulu Lemon) and Uniqlo in particular have a focus on “technical” fabrics that don’t wrinkle or crush - great for travelling.
You can get a personal shopper at Nordstrom. They’ll help you feel like a more stylish YOU. That’s what I like about it - they’ll push you to your style edge but tailor it to what’s comfortable for you. 3 other recommendations: 1.) start with quality versatile classic pieces you can wear with multiple outfits like a nice black blazer. 2.) find someone at work who’s style you love and emulate them 3.) start with solid, neutral prints which are easy to mix and match and won’t go out of style quite as fast. Good luck!
I agree. I used to ride the public bus with a woman who always looked put together. I finally asked her where she got her clothes and she said ‘lands end ponte knit dresses’. I bought one on clearance in black and loved it. Now it is part of my uniform and i have them in multiple colors.
Facials every two weeks, and new hair every 3 months. When i do my hair I usually do a dye, cut and treatment Gotta spend the money to look gucci
Love the tagline
I invested in a capsule wardrobe of about ten outfit variations with navy / black / white / grey as the main color pallet for blazers / dressers / skirts / trousers and pops of bright shades in blouses etc. It has enough variety to keep things interesting and I don’t waste time deciding on an outfit. I ensure my outfits are fitted - and get them tailored if they aren’t. I keep my shoes clean and polished. My makeup routine is 5 mins - sunscreen / lotion, basic concealer, eyeliner, lipstick. Taking care of my skin, health, sleep schedule and body massively helps.
On a separate note, anyone have suggestion for stylish shoes for rainy days (alternatively, snowy days)? I wiped out twice this week on slick pavement wearing moderately blocky heels, and hopefully you beauts suggest something great before I finally take out my spinal cord :(
Rothy’s!
Eyelash extensions, but can’t have too much volume and should stick to 1:1 lash to extension ratio. La mer has an amazing suite of products for skin; if you’re only going to try one do the face cream or eye cream! Second the keratin/Brazilian blowout.
Also under eye filler is amazing
I sooo need this. That is my one problem area
The real question is, what’s the trick to looking polished when you only have 5 minutes in the morning?
The Brazilian blowout for me is key here! I no longer have to do my hair every morning just wake up with it perfect. Best $200 I spent every quarter
For me it’s been investing in my wardrobe. I spent a decent amount on suiting and work dresses but it has paid off. I’ve pretty much worn the same stuff for the past 4 -5 years and it still looks new. I can’t say the same for Ann Taylor stuff which usually lasts a year before it starts to look worn and frumpy. I suggest a stylist from Bloomingdales (it’s included w the purchases) and sample sales at DVF / Escada / Maje / LK Bennett / theory/ etc. For hair and makeup - I second everyone here it is a routine. At this point I can get ready in 45 minutes from the time I wake up (including making myself a warm breakfast). Lastly - a steamer goes a long way.
