A total lack of financial responsibility. We made a killing these last few years and few really saved.
Glory days are behind us, friends. Like a new car off the lot, our value has depreciated.
...Until they realize how incompetent most new freelancers are to what we ‘pros’ do and then we’ll be ‘collectors cars’ again. It’s all a curve. Enjoy the free time if you can and nourish yourself.
Your output is only as good as your input.
No dumb at all. I think right now we should be taking money wherever we can get it.

freelancer legislation: the legislation that’s going to come out of this.. (think AB5 on a national scale). the machine was already moving in NJ, NY, along with other states.. but the idea is most likely going to get fast-tracked and work against true freelancers. Some of us won’t be able to pass the B2B test.
I’m seeing a LOT of “freelancers” declaring they’re freelancer. In reality they’re W2 temp workers. (sorry peeps)

AB5-like legislation stings at first, but it is for the greater good. If you want to be a “true freelancer” then there has to be a clear definition that you are an independent consultant who works for yourself, not someone who would otherwise be indistinguishable as a full-timer. Too many agencies have taken advantage of that legal gray area and treat freelancers similarly to full-timers, avoiding several kinds of taxes and obligations.

I’m sorry a lot of my friends lost jobs due to Covid19. It f-cking sucks and you need to make a living. But this is how I make
My living! You’ve been comfortable full time. I made the choice to go freelance. Worked better for me and my family - and now, your getting some of gigs that could have been mine. Fewer gigs, more people in the talent pool. No bueno.
It’s tough. On one hand, I feel terrible for you. But on the other - I still need to make my mortgage too.
