If you don’t have a team, you are not really a manager... I’d try to sort that out
What firm?
Ive been on...
Me + M + SM
Me + SC + SM
Me + SM + P
Me + C2 + P
Content-wise my favorite was Me + SC but team dynamics-wise my favorite was Me + SM + P. Awesome exposure
That’s not bad. In a similar position and enjoying life without an SM above me
Thanks P1. The problem is that I can do the work, but when the SM or partner will not even be interested in discussion engagement plan or thoughts or direction with me so I feel like I’m on an island by myself creating key deliverables with zero guidance. Definitely don’t need to be told what to do, but at least let’s collectively agree on direction for the engagement / deliverable before I create something that’s not aligned with their thinking. Plus, is it really consulting of the solution is 100% solution with no collective input from others?
I've been in that role as a SC, it was way easier coming in as an industry hire and not worrying about firm perspective. I think now I'd be more concerned about towing a line.
Are SM/P driving the direction of the engagement or is it up to you? In other words, are you left out of the loop, or are you not confident in what you’re coming up with and want more input?
OP - That’s pretty bad I would say.
At B4, A Partner is the EP who owns the P/L and Relationship.
Typically Engagement Manager roles served by an Manager or SM/D or sometimes both M and SM/D ... depending nature, complexity and ER of the project.
But in any case Engagement Manager is responsible for managing the P/L, Relationship and Lead the Project.
Most cases ER never does the work alone and has staff on the project.
Seems like this may a case of wrong planning... Easily client could have accepted A Senior Full time and .25/.5 of Ms billability and you could have been able to Manager multiple project blasting your utilization and MR. But I could be wrong as well as I don’t have much insights to your situation ...
As an A3 (mainly one on one projects)
