HI folks,
My current CTC is very low with respect to my YOE. CTC : 5.2 lpa
YoE : 4
Tech stack : Python , MLops
But now my manager has initiated H1B visa for me and the visa process is in progress.
Is it worth to wait till the H1B process completes to work in U.S (or) should i make a switch immediately. .

You never know what someone's circumstance is for having to go home. When I went through the first H1 lottery in April, I had my own wedding planned in India for December. Due to countless rfes, my visa wasn't approved when I left the country in November. I picked my own wedding VS staying here for the visa approval. It worked out fine luckily.
When my husband was on his opt, his father passed away in India and he also left before his H1 kicked in.
I'd say give everyone the benefit of doubt. During a global pandemic and immigration uncertainty, it is less likely that people are trying to just go home for no reason.
Could be anything I guess... Home sick/want to meet friends or family/holiday with
Family/ etc etc etc
Pro
Um...it may just be larger sample size! LOL
Larger sample size and more likely to get stuck with delays/rfes/endless processing of green card just because of the type of job / how the system works / demand supply gap for processing in the home country.
This is not just for indians but also for pakistanis, bangladeshis etc.
There is also a lot more uncertainty for indians/developing country citizens compared to developed countries from a travel policy perspective — Indians are used to having western countries change policies and requirements for visas randomly (and often unreasonably) because thats how it has always been.
Developed countries expect other developed countries to not change policies randomly because thats how it has always been for them and are more comfortable going home.
People generally don’t travel unless they have a real need or reason to do so especially in a pandemic.
It makes sense but I have just never seen any other person from another country asking if it’s safe to go home during ... I just assume everyone sticks out until it’s safe instead of trying to risk it
I am from Spain and also trying to figure out if I can back for holidays and then back to work with the covid situation being this bad in EU and US. Similar to D3, I'd rather ask in networks where I know the sample of people from my country would be larger.
But with the crazy regulations they maintain in here, if you want to see your family and friends once in a while, you should be asking yourself that question eventually, no matter where you are from, I guess.
OP: seriously? understand that you’re trying to say that travel during pandemic isn’t safe. But what’s this calling out Indians on it specifically? I’ve seen countless cases of people flying within and outside the country for holidays etc etc. So many Americans on my team have made Thanksgiving plans with their families despite the pandemic. Is it a smart thing to do, absolutely not! Are Indians the only ones doing it, absolutely not again! As many people have pointed out the Indians that are actually traveling could be doing it for far too many reasons beyond leisure
I’m not talking about the pandemic. I was talking about the uncertainty of being on H1B visa. Americans can travel whenever and most likely be able to come back but not visa holders.
Pro
Diwali (Christmas for indians), parents not well, marriage in family, etc. We are a big country, many h1b ppl here. So even 1pct of us wanna go, still a large number!
I hear you OP? I literally ask myself same question! I know people traveling without any reason
