It’s the same reason why some recruiters look for MBB experience specifically: it means you have a baseline level of competency if you’ve achieved that position (whether or not that’s true is another story). But I have plenty of friends without FAANG experience who are getting calls from recruiters every other day, so I’m not sure how true this statement is
I've never worked at a FAANG company before and I hear from a FAANG recruiter once or twice a month. Definitely not as important as you think
Has a recruiter outright told you this?
Yup. One at Indeed
Don’t think this is trend for levels below senior at least. Just got 2 offers from faang (one of them a max offer) and i’ve only worked at non reputable non tech companies. I have plenty of friends that have passed faang interviews coming from no name places where they’ve worked on minimal scale
Same here. I’m only 4 years out of undergrad and only 2 jobs on my resume. If faang were being as selective as you mention OP, they would never meet their hiring quotas
I've never seen that trend. Did you experience that personally?
Yes but maybe I am drawing a conclusion on a small sample size. This happened when I contacted a recruiter at Indeed Japan. And in another case, the person who referred me was tried to justify “yes he is a really strong developer” after the recruiter saw my resume and told her they only hire “strong candidates”. Maybe I am reading too much into it. 🤷🏻♂️
