INDUSTRY VS CONSULTING COMPARISON THREAD

Joining Industry has been pretty interesting. I’d love to hear about the little nuances you’ve noticed after making the switch.

I’ll go first:
- The concept of a “boss” is very real. This person is largely responsible for your career, knows your salary, and has influence in things like internal transfers
- The idea of working FOR your boss is also new
- No time sheets or utilization
- Decks and presentation skills are way less polished

Maybe I’m becoming the grumpy old lady I have like no faith in genZ lol ok little harsh I know .. and I remember when I was 22… I was far from perfect or super professional. The way they dress, zero perseverance, idk again maybe I am turning into the old lady

Can a non tech PM break into tech by learning things on the job? Or what courses would you recommend- things that one can learn online rather than doing a full time CS course as grad student? Or is that the only way to break into tech? Which companies promote such internal learning experience?
