It’s not incredibly out there but a guy I know went from buying/scalping tickets to having a handful of guys doing it to getting online in his city before the curve. He doesn’t “own” his city for online sales but he has a substantial stake for a company he founded from standing outside stadiums hustling. Same dude also started an online ammo buy/sell/.trade that he makes a killing off of. In 2012 and 2016 he made 7 figures each.
Another dude I know bought an enclosed ~20 ft trailer and turned it into a gaming “lounge” with all the consoles and screens....in like 2004/5. He ended up with 4 trailers and made multiple millions doing birthday parties and events. Ultimately sold and is “retired” ducking around with his next big idea.

I had a college friend resell bootleg designer jeans way back when $200+ jeans were in trend, it was like selling the fake LV bags but denim edition. That guy made 500k+/year for a while- reinvested into legit businesses and is now doing well for himself.
I also knew a couple that opened a Pilates studio that’s very high end, they never made a ton of income so I assumed some inheritance came their way . It turns out the husband was a professional thief and decided to go legit before inevitably getting caught. You’d never believe it if you met them though.

Family member made millions selling cigarettes online during the 90’s and was able to avoid taxation.
He bought on reservations, in bulk at lower cost then sold online until it got shutdown. He and his partners walked away with 8 figures and now he works in commodities at JP Morgan.

There trading desk is under criminal investigation for defrauding the precious metals market, no?
Got into the stock market 6 yrs ago. Been holding Tesla, Shopify (since IPO), and FAANG. I’m no longer chasing partnership.
My pay-it-forward contribution: GoodRX. Bought it last week when it debut. Don’t be “that guy” 5 years from now that missed out.
How nontraditional is grift? Asking for a president.

Friend sold cutco knives to the entire roster of the Titans years ago. May be a pyramid scheme, but he made $$$$

The kid I knew who sold cutco (and did really well!) is now a Bitcoin millionaire

Small potatoes compared to some of the stories on here, but I made about 5k running my own gambling operation on Runescape about 10 years ago.

Made the equivalent of $55k per month as pharmaceutical distributor one summer in college
Why the rap on consentyx? What about dem others - taltz, skyrizi, humira, dupixent?
Friend of mine drunkenly walked into the very first Xbox tournament in 2001 and won the whole thing. Got a car, lunch with Bill Gates and would receive every original Xbox game ever made. Sold everything and bought a house that is now a rental property and has been for 19 years.
My neighbors son, who is our daughter’s age, is a YouTube star. And started making $10 million a year when he was 6 I think. They are no longer neighbors!
And here I was impressed that I’d gone to school with Casey Neistat.
Great way to crowdsource your exit plan.
Personally I plan to move to HR because of all the shenanigans they get up to and how they get away with things by threatening internal audit and other compliance teams.
When I read this question, I thought exactly this, that OP is trying to get ideas for starting their own.
Friend in college got in on bitcoin when it was very, very new - talking 2008/9. We all thought he was crazy. I estimate he put in somewhere between 5-10k...which valuates now to some somewhere like $50-100 million.
I had ~$3m in Bitcoin if I had held it to it's peak. I did not and bought weed on silk road or whatever it was called instead.
I wasn't following Bitcoin for years and a friend told me they were going for $20K each. I was legit depressed for a week. Best decision ever.
To add insult to injury I'm pretty sure I drilled through a hard drive that had a wallet with 4 or 5 bitcoins. They weren't worth much at the time. I often wonder how many bitcoins are just lost.

Nah bruh, the best side hustles are on the low and don’t limit your future opps. This is the exact opposite of that.
High school classmate’s dad (in the early 90s) ran a Soviet, state run steel mill. When the USSR dissolved he had no place to send the money, so he kept it
College roommate would go to Miami during summer break. He’d walk the beaches and charge a few hundred bucks for henna tattoos. He’d make about $60-70k in 3 months...basically paid for next years tuition and got to use the rest for spending money for the next year.
My cousin was banned from the stock market. He is a mathematical genius (and schizophrenic) and in the mid 80s made millions in what looked like insider trading. In all actuality he was playing the patterns. Once computers were readily available, they could prove he wasn’t doing anything illegal. That money now goes to his care and I’m so thankful we have it.
Possible but unlikely.
If you look at guys like Ed Thorp it is possible. He created Black Scholes before Black Scholes in 1967. They reference his work in their paper.
Ed Thorp is almost singularly intelligent. He figured out that there was something wrong with Madoffs hedge fund years before it collapsed. His hedge fund had phenomenal returns as well (~20% per year for 30 years). He was one of the leaders in card counting. Worked at Bell labs with Claude Shannon (information theory). Just all around a super interesting guy.
Brother went out to LA one summer in high school to work for a small record label. Used contacts to get into A&R with a big record label during college and dropped out. Signed a few really big successful artists his first 5 years and negotiated a contract of $1M per year at age 25. Making well above that with royalties
Bieber!
I made around 550k bonus hustling online casinos. This was a while back and can't be done anymore!
Yes. There were one ot two on line that did. But I screenshot my balances and the threat of me going public was enough for them. Microgaming had a real easy seemless payout, so I stuck mostly with that platform.
Friend’s dad made his career and millions selling stickers and labels. Hundreds of corporate contracts for printing labels for fire extinguishers, beer bottles, glass food jars, tires, etc... still crazy to me how something so simple and obviously a need for could be the ticket.
A friend of mine did something similar. Was the 1st supplier of high quality receipt paper in developing nations that started transitioning to using POS systems. Came to the US after a couple other successful ventures.
Sometimes, it's the simple things.
