I’m hoping to eventually work at Google in their Business Operations and Strategy division, but most of my experience (BDM, PM, int’l ADM) is for local startups and my BA is in Biblical Literature. It seems like consulting groups like Boston Consulting Group are considered pools for hiring potential Google candidates. Does anyone know if they help pay for schooling or if there are any other companies I could work remotely at on the East Cost that would help with this trajectory?
Just did a lateral move for the same exact money. But moving out of a toxic company and poor wlb was totally worth jt.

20% is my minimum but if my company was super toxic and I just wanted out, I’d be ok making a lateral move somewhere.
Every position is different so it’s impossible to answer that question in a vacuum. It depends on how big a risk you’re taking, whether or not you’d need to relocate, the expectation of having to work 70-100 hour works or way way less than this. All of these things come into play. I personally hope to leave for a 100% bump because I’ve seen it done before and know my industry well but realize that will not be easy, and also realize that most people will look to leave for way smaller jumps
No, not at any stage. I’ve seen people jump as experienced managers or senior managers in public to directors of large organizations. They go from a base of 180 to a base of 375 or 400. Over 100% jump. Not easy to do though. Need to have very deep knowledge of one industry and to be able to find the open job and get it
I use 20% as a baseline. If I like the mission I come down. If I don’t care as much or if I want to play chicken I ask for more.
I’m currently exploring the possibility of leaving a place I love for a job role that is more directly aligned to my passions. I asked for a 60% bump from current and am still not sure it will be enough to make me leave. Status quo and culture are so hard to leave!
