the one that has all the ideas already written in it, that one’s the best
Haha. Haven’t seen these in-store or online. Send me a link?
Yellow legal pad, haha. My dad always had them in his home office growing up, and when I went to ad school a teacher used them.
They said back in the day all the ad writers wrote on yellow pads because your brain is less intimidated by the color. Yellow was somehow more freeing because what you wrote on it was so obviously not final.
True or not, I liked the story and how big the sheets are, haha. I’m more picky for pens!
Interesting story. I have a legal pad I use from time to time but writing my ideas in a notebook makes them feel…safer? (I know, I’m probably crazy)
I love any of the Japanese journals from Kinokuniya with the super silky paper. Similar to MUJI’s, but in fun colors and different sizes. Gimme all those and the biggest, fattest gel rollerball pen they carry.
I just looked these up. They look great! Sadly, unavailable where I’m at.
Muji notebooks and Muji 0.5mm pens
Muji gel pens are 😍
Rhodia staple-bound, blank 80-sheet, 8.25 x 12.5. Cheap, good paper, and not too snooty looking.
I enjoy the minimalist covers of Rhodia notebooks.
6x9 lined spiral notebook. Spiral flips back for easy use. Smaller blank page = less intimidating
I love dotted paper as opposed to blank or lined. It gives the opportunity for more structured thumbnails into how I envision the copy looking in the ad that I can then share with my AD partner. I also dislike when paper is too thick or has any other texture than smooth. Preferably hard or thick cover so I don't always need a table, and spiral spine or something similar so I can fold and flip it. Can't be a mini notebook either, you write like one line and the page is filled.
Tbh I've never been able to find one that meets all those expectations. It's always one short of being perfect.
With you on dotted paper. I don’t mind grid paper either but it depends on the size of the grid. Sounds like you might enjoy the quality of MUJI’s paper. They don’t meet all your criteria though.
Black n Red. Beautiful hardbound covers, quality paper. My ink never smears even when I'm shedding tears.
Tear-proof paper is always a big plus 😆
Yellow legal pads.
