The air of superiority

funny

Superiority means that you will have to be responsible for all the biggest problems that come up. Give me a worker-bee position any old day and I'll be happy LOL

My favorite part of being an engineer is being able to see the tangible results of my work. I can be working on something and then see it come to life, and it's really satisfying.

like

The best part of beeing an engineer is the possibility to understood how the things around the word work.
How a civil structure is built, the processes that undergoes in a nuclear reactor or how to improve the performance of a race car.
This is way I have studied all these years

like

Discovering how and why things work has always been fascinating to me, there is so much I want to know about the world and engineering is the best career for people with this kind of interest. I can't picture myself just working in an office typing reports. I really need to be learning something new every day or I would just be wasting my time.

I love being part of massive, interdisciplinary projects. It's always amazed me to see the things that humans can achieve when collaborating

like

To know that we can achieve great things with our work

I love the challenge of solving problems and the satisfaction of seeing a project through from start to finish.

There is something new to learn every single day, and it really never gets boring. A lot of people SAY their jobs are like that, but I really MEAN it!!!

Everything that people have made is "engineered." So it's not like a magical, esoteric term, it just means that we study how to make things (systems, products, etc.) that work better

I've been working here for about two years now, and I have to say, I love my job. The company culture is great and the people are wonderful to work with. But recently, I've noticed that my manager has been asking me to do more and more work on my own without giving me any additional compensation for my time. He just keeps telling me that if I want to get ahead, then this is what I need to do.

I'm not sure what to do here—do you have any advice?

Any Bridge Engineers/Structural Engineers in here? I got my PE this year and have 5 YOE in TX + an MS. What sort of raise would you expect for receiving your PE working in a consulting firm? I am EOR on a number of structures in development, I manage EITs and Drafters (within projects; I'm not a supervisor), and am doing a lot in general. I'm at 78k currently, which is apparently still in the upper range of EIT salaries per a job posting in CO. I'm thinking of 15% (5% merit, 10% PE). Any ideas?
