What’s your favorite template on Square Space that’s good for hosting advertising portfolio? Or do you guys have any other site recommendations that have more modern templates?

Oft overlooked, good old Cargo rolled out a major update a couple years back. Easy to migrate from the first incarnation, pretty intuitive to use, and can make your book stand out from some of the more overused Squarespace templates. I'd also check out Semplice if you have more design chops!

👆I often get compliments on my Cargo site design and I’m a copywriter, too.

Squarespace is the easiest.

ReadyMag seems pretty cool but not exactly intuitive to use. Also not fully responsive if you care about that (I think it’s a big deal since I don’t know what device my site will be viewed on).

Webflow has cool paid templates and seems pretty versatile, but harder to use than Squarespace.

Wix has good templates but I couldn’t get it to be fully responsive, and the mobile layout tools really bugged me.

Personally, I’m in the process of switching from Squarespace to Webflow, and these are my findings along the way. I have minimal design or dev skill, so your experience may vary.

Also a fan of semplice. Requires a lot of effort, but give you the power to make something unique

Please don’t use Avenue.
It’s the most common SS template.

Avenue gang 💪🏼

Personally a fan of Semplice.

My favorite template is not using Squarespace. Webflow, baby!

Haha easy to get lost in the fancy interactions, but totally hear ya, I’d keep looking, you’ll find something that you like. They have a cool ‘showcase’ where you can see what others have done and which templates they used

helpful

Squarespace is for sure the easiest, especially because the responsive adaption is pretty much done. But I find extremely restrictive creatively. You can hack at that for sure but it works best when you don’t want to necessarily be super creative with the web design.

Big fan of Semplice but that being said, you need to have a solid vision, otherwise it will be pretty basic. It’s easy to get caught up tinkering and you need some time to really work at coherency between all the versions. I’ve found myself making an amazing site on desktop that turns into trash on mobile so that can become time consuming.

Webflow looks interesting and I’d definitely try that in the future.
