We can have fridge and microwave in our rooms, so I pack my lunch. I eat leftovers mostly and I’m usually snacking most of the day. Hummus and pita chips, salsa and tortilla chips, fruit, dark chocolate, and grits or oatmeal. I have left to get lunch but really it’s just to go for a nice drive. This has only been possible when I have a prep before or after lunch since our school is in the boonies. I can order my Panera ahead of time and pick up in 20 minutes.

Our school is fairly new. That may have something to do with it. Also the staff lounge is far from classrooms and can’t accommodate everyone. In addition, there are no real eateries or grocery stores close by. Having a fridge and microwave is a matter of necessity if you want to eat something other than cafeteria food.

We asked for mutual planning time. To get it, the core Junior High teachers supervise lunch for jr, high and high school lunch shifts. We worked out a schedule that 7th grade teachers meet on Monday and Wednesday and 8th meet Tuesday and Thursday. If not meeting, we are supervising lunch. We managed to have a 30 minute lunch break each day. Fridays we take turns, so that I might have an hour and a half off. Our classes were 6 periods. Now we are teaching periods. It has its advantages and disadvantages. I like being able to leave our closed campus with plenty time to get food, eat and be ready for class.

I do meal prep on Sunday and prepare 4 days of lunches. On Friday, I leave to pick up something.

I do the same. When my children moved out I taught them to, prepare their meals on Sunday. They do

Pack! But I see veteran teachers eat cafeteria food.

I used to and then they changed vendors

I choose to pack lunch most days…but it is incredibly alarming that so many of you have said what you are “allowed” to do on your lunch break. Labor laws ENTITLE you to a duty free lunch break. No one can legally confine your lunch break to campus, unless you are being compensated for your time.

We either pack our own or eat cafeteria food. No leaving for lunch. Sometimes we are able to order food to be delivered.

like

I pack because I like having the extra time to socialize or get work done so I don't have to take it home. Plus I do a keto diet. It's just easier to bring my own food.

like

I almost always just bring my lunch. I hate the cafeteria food and don't have enough time to go out.

like

I definitely eat school lunch. 2.50 okay-ish lunch? Can’t beat that

likesmartfunny

It's $4.75 where I live, and most days it's worth $2.

We all pack. We are not allowed to leave campus and we actually have to eat with and supervise our students each day. It’s been this way since I started working!

likehelpfulfunny

We are guaranteed that 30 duty-free lunch. Some get longer than others based on schedule due to COVID but EVERYONE gets their 30 minutes.

like

I always pack my own lunch… leftovers from last night’s dinner if I’m lucky. Soup or sandwich if not. Our school doesn’t allow us to leave campus. But I’ve seen some get food delivered or an assistant go pick it up.

My mom. Was a home and. Careers teacher in a junior HS. She was the department chair, so she often wound go shopping on her prep period. She made able to show her principal that she could spend less and get more supplies with her coupon use and sale shopping instead of ordering through a school vendor. Her principal appreciated this so much that he put her lunch and prep period back to back. She had a block of 80 minutes time to leave tge building. It wads a real treat.

I eat the school lunch. It's hit or miss, but sometimes very good. New cook next year though. Maybe I'll lose some weight.

here's my prediction. If Biden wins, the media will begin to message the following; -The worst COVID risks and outcomes are to people with identifiable risk factors such as obesity and diabetes. -Most other people who catch it will experience a bad flu. -Many other people who catch it won't even know they have it. -It's not commonly transmitted by touching objects and person to person transmittal is low risk except in close contact. The media will then message that we should; (cont'd)

Has anyone here had a breakthrough Covid case who also received the Moderna vaccine? Anecdotally - went to a small wedding last weekend and a TON of the guests are testing positive for Covid now. Everyone at my table has symptoms or a positive test at this point - except me. I had a negative test and got moderna. They all received Pfizer. Other guests at different tables are seeing the same thing, including married couples with different vaccinations.

In the past two weeks my work has picked up 10x what it was previously. Now I’m working 70+ hr weeks and often my projects are submitted nearly before deadline since I’m shuffling multiple at once. My team is understaffed and there’s no plan to hire people due to COVID-19. How do you manage to tackle the day instead of let it tackle you? I feel like no one knows how much I’m suffering since I’m WFH’ing and try to relay positive emotions over FaceTime or messages.

Need recommendations for things to do tonight and tomorrow night in Boston. I am on-site - Boston downtown till Thursday. First time in Boston. I will most probably be solo (may be 1-2 coworkers but not sure). Want to explore the bar scene, and meet random people (like it used to be before COVID). I know most night clubs are closed on weeknights, so looking for next best thing. M, 30s. Tia.
