Junior year of college, lost my financial aid and booted from my parents house. Worked 60 hour work weeks moving trees plus night school. Took off work on Wednesday’s to build my business. When I made more in commissions than my hourly income, I quit my labor job... Finished college, CFP, CLTC STARTED RIA firm , Mortgage Company...Put 2 kids through college, 1 through Grad School...nothing was built overnight without HARD WORK AND SMART WORK
Single mom even when I was married. I was an assistant knowing I had it in me to be a FA. Three kids later, Prince Charming had enough of playing house. It took me another 4 years to build my courage and believe in myself. I did it. As the song says, I’m still standing 🎼
I was a teacher for nearly 20 years, then realized how far behind I was on retirement because I had done nothing on my own and didn't understand a pension was not 100% income replacement. The more I investigated my situation the more I wanted to be an FA. I quit teaching on the last day of school in June. Studied that summer and passed the 7, 66, and insurance, and got my first client in August of that year. A big leap of faith with a large family depending on me.
Lived in the back of a van with a dog doing cross country delivery work after family “business” didn’t work out and lost my student loan money I borrowed my last term to buy real estate in ‘07. Ed Jones guy knocked on my door (of a house I was rehabbing) and I realized I knew a lot more than him, so I applied to Jones and was hired. Always loved markets, investing, and economics from the beginning, and now I love helping the people I work with have better life outcomes!
