I'm a Management Support Specialist, but honestly I care way more what my paycheck says than what my business card says. 🤷🏼♀️
Titles don’t matter as much as what your job is and your compensation.
However, in general:
Admin Asst: more entry-mid level, usually working for a group or lower level execs-in-training,or having responsibilities that don’t require decision making as much as execution.
Executive Asst: working for more senior execs and having some projects with decision making required.
Senior EA: significant tenure and experience in the job. Typically support projects of your exec with your own responsibilities, most likely operational, logistical, and execution oriented.
Chief of Staff: runs operations for senior and C Suite execs, acting as manager of the admin team for one or more sub-groups depending on the position of the exec you support.
I wish that's how it was at my firm. A lot of the time the AAs are doing the same or more work than the EAs.
Typically, after Executive Assistant would be Sr. EA or Chief of Staff. The roll comes with more job duties vs. the regular paper pushing basics. Also, I wouldnt be making up titles as previously suggested. Titles are earned by your efforts. If you are stuck on Admin which is more clerical or EA which is more 1on1 with a Executive/C-Level person to support, I'd suggest to ask for more responsibility then the pay raise that goes with it once you've proven yourself you can handle the work load. Never make up a title, because when the day comes for a background/reference check and your title doesnt match, there will be questions.
Executive Team Operations, but it’s a role that’s created in efforts of me developing into Chief of Staff.
PwC is now calling us Executive Concierge. Blech.
Partner Bob and his ilk. 🙄
Operations manager
I’m agree with others that it doesn’t matter what the tile is but salary and what I’m expected to deliver. But I suppose the title goes with how many years experience you’ve had. Your background as to what type of c-level executive you support, etc. You can just make up your own title that reflects what you do.
project manager is the next move
Executive Operations
You want to move away from the title or the job?
I know I want out of the job and the title.
Senior Executive Assistant.. then Associate
