When a partner does something pretty simple for you (e.g. send a quick email to the Library team to give me access to a database, etc), should I bother to send a one-liner thank you response? Or is that just a hassle given the volume of emails they receive.

Really depends on the person. I don’t like getting those emails because of volume of emails. However I also recognize that many people feel differently so I don’t get upset about it. If I am working with someone frequently I may tell them to stop.

like

I look at it differently- I Always try to thank someone if they did me a curtesy- a thank you means you noticed- just me

Say thank you to wrap it up.

If they're ccing me on an email to the library I reply all with thanks once the request has been fulfilled.

If they send me something I need I email thanks to acknowledge receipt.

For the married and/engaged ladies, did you have any pre-wedding jitters? I recently got engaged (yay!) and I have felt for a very long time that my partner truly is my soulmate. I don’t have any reservations or hang ups about marrying him, but the sole idea of a lifetime physically makes me anxious. I feel guilty having these feelings when I couldn’t be more certain about the decision to marry him. Can anyone else relate?

Hi All. I am a little confused what the rule is for practicing as a remote in-house counsel. For example, if my employer’s corporate office is based in Texas, but I live in Florida and work from Florida, do I have to register as in-house counsel in both states or either states. I appreciate any insights. Thanks.

I took adderall while I was studying for the bar and it really helped. Do you think getting Aderall could help even though I’m doing fine? Maybe I’ll go from good associate to great

How does hourly contract lawyering work? I’m on a contract through a recruiting firm before the company hires me directly. My pay is hourly but I get time and a half for over time. I’m currently a policy atty for a think tank and did prosecution before that so I’ve never “billed.” I regularly check and respond to emails on my phone in the evening after work. Do I include that on my timesheet??

My firm has a collections budget (80% of your billable rate x 1850 hours) and an hourly budget that must be met in order to be eligible for a bonus. The firm cares very little about originations and will reward someone for making their collections over someone who brings in new work. I missed my collection budget due to some odd timing with a client, but originated more than all my peers so no bonus for me. I’ve been at this same mid level firm for 9 years and it’s all I know. Is this normal??
