When a PPMD sends out an email with multiple people in the To: field and doesn’t address any one person specifically, who owns the responsibility to deliver? PPMD minds are a mysterious thing.

Most Senior person is responsible so an analyst will end up doing it

likefunny

Pretty sure they don't care (and don't really need to) who does it - it just needs to get done. It's the responsibility of those in the 'to' field to figure it out.

I cannot believe there is a question. It is up to the team to coordinate, with the most senior person leading and delegating. Even in the small chance that everyone on the email is the same level, someone step up to coordinate with the rest. How would the PPMD respond to an excuse of "it is not finished because you didn't tell us who is responsible."?

like

I think the risk you run is that nobody steps up until the second email from the PPMD asking if the job is done yet. 😀

^1 nailed it! OP, this is your chance to step up and show leadership.

Agree to an extent with PwC 1. From the receiver's point of view, it makes things more difficult and time consuming when the sender just sends broadcast rather than using one name in the To field. Why can't we take the extra minute to specify rather than creating confusion among recipients resulting in x times the waisted effort (x being the number of recipients)?

like

^^ you got it, C. The partner probably ensured someone on the thread is someone they regularly talk to. That person will be on the hook next time they talk, so hopefully they will respond the to the smaller group and coordinate

Partner principal managing director

If ppmd emails director specifically, director will likely turn around and email mgr, and so on. Inefficient. Not ppmd’s job to assign specific tasks. Work it out.

Who isntge most senior.

Bad style imho

What is PPMD?

If it’s truly shared or person is purposely wanting to see who will take point, sure.

But if they already have someone in mind for taking point, they should communicate that clearly

Agree w C1 - often the P may not know who is owns which specific task but just wants to make sure it gets done.

Tired of all the respectability politics. Just once I want to write what I really mean in an email or tell a client what I really think of them when they ask. F*cking tired of walking on eggshells and constantly wondering if I did or said the right thing in the right way or the right tone to make sure the people around me are comfortable. Who's doing that for me at work? Nobody.

How do you judge when to leave a company for something better if you never burn out or hate where you are?
My specific situation: 4 years out of undergrad with Slalom, I like my job/coworkers and am making solid money but am starting to be qualified for interesting/lucrative exit ops. Not trying to grass-is-always-greener myself out of a good thing and I'm in no rush to leave, but how do I know when it's time to take advantage of other opportunities? Would love any advice from older folks!
