When being considered for a project (long term), would you tell the engagement leader about your upcoming maternity leave? Has anyone here been rejected for a role after they communicated about parental leave? What is the right thing to do?

I would do the same thing whether it's a new project or a project I've been on for 1.5 years. I would tell when I am ready to let everyone that I am pregnant. So I think my answer is no. I would not share about upcoming leave specifically as part of the staffing process.

Wait until after you are staffed and you are ready to communicate it. It’s your personal business!

I would definitely tell up-front! If the manager is someone who wouldn’t want to staff you due to pregnancy, they are gonna be a nightmare when you need time to go to the doctor, slack on a day when your symptoms are getting the best of you, etc.

Trying to predict how long I can do this etc. any tips would be helpful ? My ex pays the mortgage which is 50% of childcare right now. I have a nanny 9 to 5. I save zero and it scares me .

Should I buy nyc real estate? I’m 24, have no debt, and currently TC is 150k. Currently, I have 110k in savings + 401k and just started to get into investing. By June 2021, I’ll have at least 150k from savings, 401k, etc. I just got started investing this month in the stock market but now I’m thinking about real estate. There are condos in JC and brooklyn for 400k which doesn’t seem too bad but dont know if I’m being way unrealistic. I’d appreciate any advice!

Do you feel the same? I both love WFH and am going crazy. I love that there is no commute, I can very quickly log on when nanny comes (so save money with fewer hours) and I see the baby sometimes. BUT I also feel like a caged hamster - I don’t get a break / especially if I’m back to back in calls and hate the monotony. I am pitching a project that will likely be local and I am both excited and scared about commuting again. So scared about how to manage it all.

Would love to hear from moms whose babies went to daycare / school right after maternity leave (no nanny etc). Due in March and on the list for a stellar Montessori daycare / preschool near us to start in August (school year) when baby is 4-5 months old. Feeling guilty and struggling to decide if keeping baby home a year with a nanny is better, starting school in 2023? However, I’m worried about cost - we really would not be able to afford a nanny in our city on our salaries. Advice welcome!
