Years ago I worked with a bunch of juniors who apparently thought I asked too many questions. Fools.
If someone any number of rungs up the ladder is making you feel stupid for asking questions, they shouldn't be that high up the ladder.
I've worked with supervisors and managers that simply let their jaded attitude drag down their direct reports, which basically made me terrified of ever "annoying" them with what very well may have been 101 questions.
Idc how "stupid" someone thinks their q is, now that I've got my own direct reports I make sure they know they can ask me anything. Especially during/after a KO. Chances are there *is* something missing in the brief, and other folks just might not care enough to ask cause...well...like I said. Jaded.
Amen to this. Been feeling this a lot.
This is a topic I have been hammering to my team. We can NOT be afraid of asking questions ever. There are no stupid questions. We are in a business with a lot of turnover. I don’t expect anyone to be fully well versed on a clients business. When we don’t ask questions we just ourselves for failure. I can’t stress enough of us managers need to create a safe environment for everybody to ask the questions they need to
There are SO many stupid questions. Like please. Not to say people shouldn’t learn to ask questions, but there’s a time and place, and also…
Sometimes people need to just use an ounce of common sense to figure something out for themselves. So many questions I hear on meetings are ones that anyone who’s taken a second to think could answer.

I didn’t know it was a problem. I always feel bad when I don’t ask enough questions or have a question later that I wish I asked in the meeting.
I think the problem is asking questions is a SKILL, that most people don’t have.
There are stupid questions. Dumb questions. Questions that can be worked out with literally an ounce of common sense. Questions that cause unnecessary spin.
And then there are smart questions. One’s that push understanding along or raise problems that need to be addressed.
I’d say 80% of questions I hear asked are the former, and a small percentage are the latter. And to avoid so many people looking like idiots, it’s defaulted to “don’t ask”.
I don’t agree with this, as I don’t think we should be like “yes client, whatever you say”. But I’ve heard agencies ask questions trying to sound smart that just makes clients roll their eyes because of how dumb it is. I had a boss who always had a million (bad) questions for clients and you could see every question they asked souring the relationship, with the client.
I think asking questions should be something we teach tbh.
