When do y’all start looking for jobs—when you’re fed up or do you always keep your eyes peeled. I ask because I realize there are different approaches out there. My non-attorney friend doesn’t hate her job but applies to a few jobs every month. Do other folks here do this? For some reason I feel guilty for applying to jobs when I’m not 100% ready to leave…yes I recognize this mindset can be damaging 😅

I’m also receptive to talking to recruiters when they reach out to discuss any opportunities. You never know what’s out there and also helps keep your pulse on comp trends.

Likewise. You never know what could be the exact right fit for you if you’re not 100% happy with your current employment situation. Even if you are, I believe it’s always good to know market rates and the advancement opportunities available.

I always keep my eyes peeled. Opportunities are everywhere, and if I feel undervalued at a Firm, I will take other interviews. Nothing wrong with taking interviews, but I get more serious when I’m 100% ready to leave.

not unhappy, but some interesting opportunities out there i wouldn’t mind

I think I want to eventually leave biglaw and go in-house so I have alerts for jobs. If something seems particularly interesting, I apply. I've received a few in-house offers but I haven't been offered an in-house role that is worth it yet. My husband would disagree on that point. 😅

I honestly keep my eyes peeled at all times. I don't necessarily look but I get updates from a few places and I look at them when they come up. I don't think it hurts to always be on the lookout for something better.

I love my current firm and I still keep my eyes peeled. If you don't own the place yourself, you can never be too sure. I don't think it hurts to keep looking and seeing what is out there. You just never knwo.

One of my MBA professors had this advice where his employer knew he was applying to ONE job once a year back when he wasn't a professor. He said it ensured the employer would recognize his worth. Not sure you want to be that brazen, but I certainly see the appeal in staying open to market change

What happens if I decide to take a full scope or be willing but after I join the company or project I get cold feet and decide not to? Do I just get let go or have dire consequences? I am being pushed by recruiter to get a FS but I am not sure. The backlog is huge though so maybe I throw the dice and learn a lot then leave before I need to if at that point I am not 100% in it?

Thanks

How do you evaluate the financial health/viability of a startup you’re interviewing with? Are there specific questions you ask and/or external research you do? Question from a recent UX Bootcamp grad: I currently have a single case study in my portfolio. Upon reading somewhere that 2 case studies are required to be considered by recruiters, I stopped applying to jobs for about 2 months as I work on a second case study when I can.

Hi all, recently a recruiter from Amazon reached out for an SDE 2(2+ years of exp. required) role and I'm a recent CS grad. I gave the OA (which was extremely difficult w/ 99% cut-off) and other tasks related to the OA. A few hours back, I got a call from the recruiter that I had cleared the assessment and tasks and said that they are looking for 2+ years of exp. I said I'm open to the SDE1 role and said she'll ask her colleagues. Idk what to expect now 😥 Amazon Amazon India

I’ve always gotten the advice that when you want to switch jobs you should take interviews from places you’re not actually interested in, so you can understand your value in the market and have better negotiating power.

I’m doing that rn - took a couple interviews to gauge my skills, my market value, and see what I need to work on for interviews that I actually care about.

However, I feel really guilty about wasting their time and going all the way knowing I’ll just say no at the end. Wwyd?
