When do you think Edward Jones will be featured on the TV show "Cults and Extreme Beliefs"? 😂

Meh. Say what you will but I like my firm, the job, and the esprit de corps we have. Most of us know that we're not alone in having a good work environment and yes we do like to brag about what we feel we do right. I don't, however, feel that we go out of our way to make other firms out to be Satan. We try to learn from their mistakes, yes, but i never hear management or many other advisors for that matter single out a company and bad mouth them at all times.

I personally never try to sow seeds of derision about other firms because it helps nothing. There are great, good, and bad advisors at every firm not just here at Jones.

So while we may not be your cup of tea, and while our tight knit culture can be grating for those who don't embrace it or understand it, it works for us and I'm cool with that.

So I guess I'll leave you with this, I'm not sure what caused you to post this, maybe you had a bad run in with a local ej guy, but the world is too small and life to short to get wrapped up in petty stuff like this. I for one hope to have a great year, and I hope you do too! We serve clients, and there are more than enough to go around!

I witnessed and experienced the brainwashing firsthand. And am afraid to admit that i drank the koolaid myself. The partners really drill how Jones can do no wrong, how no other firm cares about their employees the way they do, that they are somehow a special company above all else, then make it so it is near impossible to mingle with FAs from other firms.....sounda cultish to me. Drill a belief into your brain and then cut you off from outside contact. Obviously I am exaggerating but you get the point

So basically you left 3 months ago, are a little bitter, have a bone to pick and this thread is a zero value add. Here here. Best to you and best to anyone who seeks to grow on this forum rather than surmise conflict.

In what way do they make it “near impossible to mingle with FAs from other firms?"

Jilted Ex? 3 months since you left and still can’t move on. 😬

This is dumb. I’m not at Jones but respect their firm and culture. I don’t understand why so many of you hate on them so hard. Move on and get a life, enjoy your firm and your clients.

For me, it's a perfect blend of being in your own and also being "part of the club". I've worked at two other firms, I like it here. Sure, I have my wishes and things I don't like, but for me, it's pretty good. I'm glad you found greener grass. I hope it works for you. Three months isn't really long enough to know in my opinion. I would also like to know what level you were before you left, but I'm sure I wouldn't trust your answer anyway. Good luck on your new journey.

@jones1...i just had a bad run in while I was employed there - while very profitable, drinking the koolaid, and volunteering for the region

Is your joke about the advisors, clients or both?

Advisors

Sounds terrible. Where are you now OP? Did it make a big difference?

Well at my new firm I only needed to move over half my assets to match my income at Jones but now I am 1099d so I get treated much better tax wise- its been 3 months so I am at about 50% right now with more to move (i also get the same kind of admin support and rent included that I had at Jones), I have more investment options for my clients, more fee flexibility in what I can charge, I own my book and my wife will get paid on it if i die, I can get paid on prop & casualty insurance referals, I can pay professionals that give me referrals which can give them incentive to refer more, I can acquire books if I choose to, wholesalers are allowed to sponsor a hell of a lot more in terms of dollar amounts and types of events, I own my book, and I don't have to worry about region politics and being at the mercy of general partner agendas..... So yea the grass is greener but never would have even guessed it til i got on the other side

Sounds like you're enjoying it man! Glad you found the right fit for yourself.

@FA2...basically 😂😂 i came across the TV show and it popped in mt head. Don't feel value in my thread, don't read it. However, there is truth to it, albeit a bit exaggerated.

@FA4. Yes, it is petty. But fun and true. You have never worked for Jones so how would you know what the hell you are talking about or anything about their culture.

My brother has been there 12 years. Thanks though.

Again, hearing about the culture through the brainwashed lens of your brother vs experiencing it yourself is completely different. Your welcome though

Showed up for an interview for Job A, was asked several questions about Job A, only to be told halfway through that Job A was now filled. But would I be interested in Job B?

Any one else have this experience?

Job A is more of a pivot and step up, Job B is doing the same exact work I do now. Their approach seemed kind of deceptive, but I didn't know if this was more common than I thought.

Considering an offer to join the diligence and strategy team (work closely with deal teams during diligence) in a large funds operating arm. Long term goal is to find a way into investing - would this be easier to achieve by continuing at MBB and directly looking for buy side roles or switch into the operating role and try and get into the investing teams from there.
