Would love to do it by 50, but I'm sure I'd just wanna keep working when/if I'm that age and making money

Hoping by 50 that I’ll be doing something that’s not stressful and pays well enough that I won’t need to/want to retire

Hopefully 50 and since I’m 45 and been doing this a while so it is at least some what realistic. Might miss that by a couple years but I won’t be missing it by 10

Hello! I’m 22 and I have enough saved up in my emergency fund to go ahead and turn my savings to starting a Roth IRA (yes I have a Roth 401k that I contribute to with my firm). I’m not great in finance and so I was looking for investment options that fit best for a ‘beginner’. I was considering either a Target 2055 or a Target 2055 index Mutual fund. But now I’m seeing other options like ETFs and I’m getting confused. Any advice on where to start would be really helpful!

For those that are maxing out their 401k making 75-100,000 are you also saving for a house at the same time? I feel like the advice is to max out a 401k before investing/saving, but is not feasible.

Aside from maxing out employer 401k, I have a vanguard brokerage account. Every two weeks I auto buy $350 of VFIAX and $200 of VWUSX.
Are there any other recommended funds I should look at to add/diversify? I’m trying to keep it pretty simple

Hey gang looking for some advice.

I currently earn ~110k and have 0 debt.

I put away 13% of my post tax income into my 401k, and another 1k a month in my savings after all expenses paid, rent, utilities, groceries, eating out, etc...

I’ve been wanting to buy a car (nothing crazy) max 20k with about 5-6k down. My estimated monthly would be 250-260 month + cost of insurance. Is this a reasonable purchase given my level of income and savings?

I currently have an old car 100k+ miles

Leaving soon how do I roll over my 401k to my next place?

So I’m only contributing to 401k enough to get employer match, and I’m saving an additional ~20% and putting 90% of that into my vanguard mutual funds. Reasoning is that I don’t want to lock away all that money maxing out 401k. Have 3 months expenses liquid in a savings account. Is this really dumb? Essentially trading tax for the option of actually using my money.

Folks always recommend having 3-6 months of cash on hand for emergencies. As a young (26) and less risk-averse individual, I’m contemplating holding just 3-4kin a high yield savings account and investing all my savings that do not go into my Roth/401k/brokerage accounts in robinhood (indiv stocks and growth ETFs). I hit my 401k pre-tax and ROTH contribution limit of $19,500 early (didn’t change my allocation when I got bonuses). I have also already hit my max company match. With the extra income, should I:

1) pile on to after-tax 401k

2) max out pre-tax and ROTH IRA

3) make extra monthly payments towards my mortgage

4) invest elsewhere such as brokerage account or crypto

Anyone here consider (or actually) take a Coronavirus distribution for their 401k (assuming you meet the vague requirements for one) of up to 100k (no 10% penalty, three years to roll into another plan (can be IRA-roth or non Roth) and counted as a trustee to trustee transfer (no one per year IRA rollover issues)?

Thoughts on using this as an opportunity to get $100k out of the 401k and into accounts you want to increase investment flexibility (and broker account bonuses)?

I changed my job earlier in the year and transferred my 401k from my old employer to Deloitte’s plan. Recently my former 401k plan mailed me another $100 check, I guess it’s just remaining balance that wasn’t available when I initiated the transfer. Can I just pocket that money and pay the penalty to irs? Don’t want to deal with the hassle of depositing it into vanguard since the check was payable to me. Any negative impact of doing so?

Have an emergency fund, contributing to Roth 401k up to match, maxing out Roth IRA, and wondering whether or not to go back and max out Roth 401k or to contribute to brokerage account.
I am saving for either school or down payment for a house in next 5 years. Have heard about back door Roth conversion but won’t I not be able to touch this money until I’m basically 50?

I’m an early 30 something. Husband and I have a FIRE target of 10M by 50. We have several friends in our circle who are also pursuing FIRE. Many of them already have most/all their FIRE target accounted for by trusts in their name from well off boomer parents. Husband and I aren’t expecting anything from our parents and that is fine. Just worried that my generation will have all these millennials with trusts and then some (con’t)
