When doing calf raises, mostly feel it in the bottom of my glutes / top of the hammies. Am I doing something wrong?

Start with body weight calf raises hanging one foot off a step while holding onto a rail. This will help activate the proper neurological pathways to activate the gastrocnemius rather than the hammie’s/glutes. Agreed with comment above, you may be going too heavy. Mind muscle connection is crucial

Sadly these are bodyweight calf raises. I’ll try using the foot cue though, thanks!

In that case try a seated variation. Drive thru the balls of your feet. Try this just to activate the intended muscles. Once you master activating the intended muscles intentionally with body weight, place a 10 lb dumbbell on your knee and progress that way.

Would recommend stepping on a weight plate. You can step on the edge and elongate the Achilles tendon and doing calf raises froM there. The additional range will place higher stress on the calf.

Can someone help recommend a food plan?

I (male) just turned 27 and have noticed my body changed over the past few years. I am 5’7, ~168 lbs. Athletic build. I stay active: gym 3-4 times per week, some basketball, ski, other social sports, peloton, golf. Admittedly, I haven’t been doing much cardio for the past 6 months because of jumpers knee.

I eat relatively healthy (6/10). Usually eggs or oatmeal in the morning, turkey wrap, salad with chicken for lunch, protein and salad dinners…
