I'd say it depends what type of company you're going for but for an interview I always wear a suit

Exactly what I do, sad thing that sometimes it was viewed as too much. Like really this position is for 65k plus and you're giving me issues about a suit?
I mean it depends on the company but 90% no jacket. A lot has changed over the years and a laid back attitude is part of it. I remember a time when no one had facial hair. I was told one time to shave my very well kept beard before an interview. Things are better now.

As a junior applicant go for 1 step above dress code up to traditional business attire then just match.
Mainstream Casual -> Smart casual
Smart casual -> Business casual
Business casual -> Executive casual
Executive casual -> Traditional business
Traditional business or boardroom business -> match
You can also just ask.

Dress for how you want the interviewer to view you. If its a professional job, wear something formal
