When I ask my manager for advice about how to do something, he usually just tells me I'll "figure it out yourself." But when it comes down to it, he doesn't help me at all by doing that—he just makes me feel like an idiot. And then when I do figure it out myself and bring the answer back to him, he won't even look at it! He'll just say something like "Oh yeah, thank you," and give me another assignment.

Welcome to the real world! Oftentimes, managers are overworked and just want things done. If he starts complaining about your work, worry, but for now, you're doing fine!

When I've worked with people like this, Ive often learned with time that they themself did not know how to do the task and that's 1) why they gave it to me and 2) why they couldn't help me. I try to build a large network at my company to have other resources to turn to in those cases.

Today my partner and I had the worst argument of our relationship. I said a lot of very mean things and I disrespected them in a very big way. I was literally seeing red - never been so angry. I could really use some advice on how to approach them with something more than I’m sorry. Can you help?

Last week team dynamics took a turn for the worst (even tho in each retro the team always commend each other, you would think team work is great). Team members get agitated with each other for being slow. Team members coming across rude and brash (the same ones are difficult to get hold to offer support, time is money is what someone said💰, the craziest was the client accidently sharing her whatsapp screen, commenting on people's feedback to what she was presenting OMG 😲 How was your week?

I am so sick and fed up with some of the older clients at my job. I know it's my responsibility to take care of them, but they're just so sexist sometimes.

Curious, is it common practice to advise managers *not* to remain in correspondence with a recently terminated employee? An employee was just fired *without* cause (headcount reduction) and has been trying to contact his former manager to stay in touch, etc. The manager has not responded to the employee yet.

I’m a manager and one of my direct reports makes more than me. It really bothers me. Anyone else been in this situation before? What’s the best way to handle it?

I am in quite an awkward position. I have been a temp at my job for 7 months. My boss said he will keep extending it until himself and his boss are given permission to hire me as an official employee. They are both fighting for me!! I have never turned down a task and have gone as far as to clean a company vehicle out and clean the office. I need to negotiate a raise with the cost if living as a single parent. I need advice!

I have a partner on my team who keeps saying that “marketing and BD activities are bullsh$t,”even in front of his lead partner, who is the one trying to get team members to incorporate BD into their practices. I have a feeling our lead partner does not want to confront this person, so he keeps ignoring the heckling. Should I do something about this?

I love working at the bookstore and I'm proud to work with such a large group of people from different backgrounds. I'm really happy we're all here. But it probably isn't the best idea to get someone to reshelve books when they haven't been taught how to categorize them properly. It's like I spend most of the day following one of my coworkers around and discreetly fixing what he works on. He's a great guy, very personable, but wow is it frustrating.

What is the advice on what feedback to leave for a peer who really sucks at everything y'all have worked together on? It's about the time where everyone on my team requests feedback from each other and I'm nervous for it coming up. My manager knows that everything I've worked w her on I end up doing 90% of the work when it's meant to be split so it is a known issue. We're both at level 3 so are genuinely peers. She seems like a nice person but i have 0 positive work feedback tbh
