I’m curious to know why are there so many jobs in Pharma and so little to none on consumer. Don’t get me wrong. I did Pharma (HCP and DTC) for a while before I found something more aligned with what I wanted. Any thoughts?
Every agency’s work load is this: 75% awful crap tactics you must do. 20% are those same tactics, but you found a way to make it great and fresh. 5% really awesome opportunities you’re selling to your clients.
They say Pharma pays well. How well? Also, what’s the majority of the work like. What are you producing? Also, are there hugely extravagant budgets that translate to actually getting to make cool shit from cool locations? Are the rest of us in consumer just saying something that doesn’t exist. ECD OP, are you happy?
Go to Clio Health and click on Winners. There’s actually some pretty interesting work happening in health and wellness. There’s also the 80% of daily crap, but we already covered that.
“Wow this sounds great! What’s the catch. There’s a catch.” And there is. Pharma. 4/
Anyway. Who wants a job and a shot at NYC? DM me your site. End/
One day I’d had enough of the small ball, and moved to NYC. No job. 3 years worth of savings. Found a roommate. Got a long term freelance job doing desktop publishing. Worked on my book. SVA. AdHouse. Had a great book. Got a job. Clock wipe: ECD 2/
Regardless of agency, we senior managers know we only get to rent young talent for a year or 2 before the opportunities call, and you have to go elsewhere chasing the brass ring. 6/
The FDA restrictions, I.e. the government are meant to protect the consumer and HCPs from unethical practices and marketing, the same things pharma is accused of and (more often in the past) guilty of - So I'm baffled by people who bitch about them but also bitch about unethical marketing practices. I assume they're totally unaware of their own contradictory opinions?
Healthcare and biotech are exploding growing fields due to massive developments in science, medicine, and technology. It's very short sighted to ignore or scoff at health work. It's a field that lacks talent and is constantly hiring + it provides specialized knowledge and skills and industry expertise that will be in demand for ages. Those that are not cut out for it, I totally understand they wouldn't do well in it and no point in getting yourself in something that isn't a match for you. But those who could do it and don't out of misguided snobbery are losing tons of opps and pay and career longevity.
All facts
But a job’s a job and you might like it. Or you might hate it. Either way, you’re in NYC. And it’s easier to get a job when you have a job. 5/
Maybe I need to do an AMA, lol.
You can’t win if you don’t engage! 🙏
Why is global ecd so offended? I’m not tracking.
Also, can someone list some of the best pharma agencies in nyc?
Any agencies do pharma and consumer?
I got you. 💪
Someone asked how I ended up in pharma.
The answer: Ron Reagan and HW Bush wrecked the economy. Jobs were sparse in 1994. No internet, so you really had to hit the streets with PRINTED PORTFOLIOS to find jobs. Headhunters were awful.
So one space that had jobs were healthcare agencies. I got a spot at CDM and built a skill set and knowledge base and then just kept getting opportunities. Some agencies were pharma plus consumer, some were just pharma. But as time went on, there were just more opportunities. So I stayed on.
Anyway. Pharma is restrictive, but what you make is only limited by your creativity. You can pitch ideas to clients, or non profits. People are just hung up on the legal restrictions.
Btw I worked on tech and finance as well and the work was the same. Same nonsense legal restrictions.
Hey OP thanks for sharing. Next time when you do something like this, please make it a 2 parter. Your OP has a low character count but replies can be long. It was a wild ride getting all 6 parts of your story.
Noted.....
